Total Base Race – Seattle Mariners/Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins get an elite matchup against Tommy Milone, who has thrown well through four games (three starts) this season. He owns a 1-1 record with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. With that being said, he’s due for regression, as he also owns a 4.20 xFIP and a 4.00 SIERA in those games. Milone has given up a 42.1% fly ball rate, while holding his opponents to a 12.5% HR/FB rate in 2019. He has also allowed a 43.9% hard hit rate to go along with a 14% soft hit rate. Milone enters this game with 24.4% strikeout and 10.5% swinging strike rates. Throughout his career, he has allowed right-handed batters to hit for a .281 average with a .464 slugging percentage and a .337 wOBA. Tonight, he gets a matchup against the most powerful offense in the MLB. Jorge Polanco has been playing at an elite level recently, posting a .372 average with a .581 slugging percentage and a .964 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns seven extra-base hits (one home run) over that span. Polanco has recorded 40% hard hit and 47% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, as well. Polanco has been better against right-handed pitching, but his combination of consistency, power, and speed make him perfect for this type of play. Nelson Cruz will likely be the highest owned player in DFS tonight, and for good reason. Since returning to the Minnesota lineup, he owns 73% hard hit and 53% fly ball rates with a 101 MPH exit velocity. He also owns seven extra-base hits (four home runs) in those six games. Cruz has also been at his best against left-handed pitching, posting a .303 average with a .727 slugging percentage, 1.127 OPS, .424 ISO, and .442 wOBA against lefties in 2019. While his at-bats are certainly a bit limited, there’s no reason to believe he’ll struggle in this matchup against his former team. Byron Buxton is generally a player that generally goes overlooked because of his spot in the lineup, but he owns a .333 average with a .667 slugging percentage and a 1.020 OPS over his last 10 games. He has posted five extra-base hits (three home runs) in those games, as well. Most importantly, Buxton has recorded a .362 average with a .638 slugging percentage, 1.038 OPS, .277 ISO, and .431 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. He should see plenty of at-bats with the Twins owning an implied run total of 5.9 runs, and he’s another player with a strong combination of power and speed.
