Total Base Race – Kansas City Royals/Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins get a great matchup against Jakob Junis, who has struggled through 14 starts this season. He owns a 4-6 record with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. He also enters this game with a 4.57 xFIP and a 4.62 SIERA. Junis has seen plenty of ups and downs with home runs this season, but overall, he enters this game with 34% fly ball and 16.9% HR/FB rates. He has given up a 42.9% hard hit rate, as well, while recording only a 13.9% soft hit rate. Junis has struggled at times with strikeouts, posting 20.5% strikeout and 9.9% swinging strike rates in 2019. He has been at his worst against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .306 average with a .537 slugging percentage and a .377 wOBA. He has also allowed righties to hit for  a .241/.422/.310 line this season, though. Furthermore, Junis has given up a .265/.523/.359 line on the road to his opponents in 2019. Max Kepler is leading off for the Minnesota Twins, and he has looked elite recently. Over his last 10 games, he’s hitting .323 with a .871 slugging percentage and a 1.359 OPS. He also owns seven extra-base hits (five home runs) in those games. Kepler has posted 51% hard hit and 58% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, as well. He has been at his best against right-handed pitching, entering this game with 0.06 wOBA and 0.122 ISO differentials against righties. Jorge Polanco is another Twin that continues to play at a high level. He has posted a .318 average with a .477 slugging percentage and a .818 OPS over his last 10 games. In those contests, he has recorded five extra-base hits (one home run). He owns strong peripherals, as well, posting 46% hard hit and 48% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Similarly to Kepler, he dominates right-handed pitching, as he brings 0.112 wOBA and 0.096 ISO differentials against righties into this game. Nelson Cruz hasn’t been at his best against righties, but he still owns a .273 average with a .504 slugging percentage and a .857 OPS against them this season. He has posted a .362 wOBA and a .231 ISO against right-handed pitching in 2019, as well. Furthermore, he has been playing relatively well recently, as he has recorded a .282 average with a .667 slugging percentage and a 1.030 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts five home runs in those games, as well. Over the last 15 days, Cruz owns 63% hard hit and 40% fly ball rates with a 96 MPH exit velocity. This trio comes with consistency and upside, and they will see extra at-bats, as they hit first through third in the Minnesota lineup.
