Total Base Race – Baltimore Orioles/New York Yankees

The New York Yankees get a matchup against John Means, who is due for quite a bit of regression. He enters this game with a 5.47 xFIP and a 4.93 SIERA. He has also struggled against right-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .251 average with a 4.31 slugging percentage and a .314 wOBA this season. He has been at his worst on the road, as well, where he has given up a .265/.475/.340 line to his opponents in 2019. DJ LeMahieu continues to play at an elite level, posting a .342 average with a .474 slugging percentage and a .869 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns three extra-base hits (one home run) over that span, as well. He also boasts 50% hard hit and 38% fly ball rates with a 96 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. LeMahieu brings 0.071 wOBA and 0.105 ISO differentials against left-handed pitching into this game, as well. Gio Urshela has been a slightly more powerful option against left-handed pitching, posting a 0.009 ISO differential against lefties. More importantly, he has been arguably the hottest hitter in the MLB recently, posting a .487 average with a 1.128 slugging percentage and a 1.663 OPS over his last 10 games. In those contests, he possesses 11 extra-base hits (7 home runs). Urshela has also recorded 52% hard hit and 41% fly ball rates with a 98 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Domingo German will be taking the mound for the New York Yankees. He enters this game with a 4.01 xFIP and a 3.93 SIERA. This play isn’t an attack on German, though, but more of a way to get LeMahieu and Urshela for a reasonable total. Jonathan Villar has been playing at an elite level, though, as he’s hitting .351 with a .676 slugging percentage and a 1.142 OPS over his last 10 games. He has posted six extra-base hits (two home runs) over that span, as well. Surprisingly, he only owns 33% hard hit and 27% fly ball rates with an 89 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Villar has also been at his best against right-handed pitching, as he enters this game with 0.057 wOBA and 0.07 ISO differentials against righties.
