Jason’s Jacks – MLB Home Run Prop Bets 4/23/19

With The Grain Prop Bet:

George Springer (TBA) – Houston Astros – OF

George Springer gets an elite matchup tonight against the Minnesota Twins and Michael Pineda, who is currently allowing 1.9 HR/9. In the last 15 days, Pineda has a fly ball rate of 48%, and his average exit velocity on batted balls in up at 95 MPH. He has always been a fly ball pitcher, and that helps Springer tonight. The weather in Houston will also benefit Springer, as it is over 70 degrees, the wind is blowing out to left field, and the humidity is up. The Astros are a very powerful team, so while leadoff hitters tend to be faster and less powerful, that is not the case in this lineup. Springer will get an additional at-bat, but he is still averaging 0.043 HR/AB. In the last 15 days, his average batted ball distance is 227 feet, his average exit velocity is 96 MPH, his fly ball rate is 34%, and his hard hit rate is an outstanding 54%. Pineda will very likely surrender at least one home run tonight, and hopefully that will be to Springer.

Against The Grain Prop Bet:

Yoan Moncada (TBA) – Chicago White Sox – 3B

Yoan Moncada is a large part of the Chicago White Sox offense this season. Outside of Tim Anderson and Ryan Cordell, Moncada has been the most effective form of offensive production on the team. Tonight, he gets a good matchup against the Baltimore Orioles and Andrew Cashner. Cashner is allowing 1.5 HR/9, and he rarely strikes batters out. The weather is fantastic in Maryland, as it is expected to be over 75 degrees, and the wind is blowing 10 MPH out toward center field. Moncada is a switch hitter, but his ISO and wOBA differentials are 0.110 and 0.057 against right-handed pitchers. In the last 15 days, he is outdoing Cordell, who was the other consideration for this recommendation, in average batted ball distance, average exit velocity, and hard hit rate. Those numbers are 236 feet, 94 MPH, and 45% respectively. His exit velocity is up 3 MPH from his 12-month average, as is his hard hit rate by 9%. It is difficult to get behind the White Sox offense as a whole, but Moncada is in a great spot tonight.

*MyBookie continually updates available prop bets on their prop builder, so odds should be released closer to the start of the contests. If you do not see George Springer or Yoan Moncada available, they will likely become available later in the day, and odds will be updated in the article when that happens.*
