Pitching

Walker Buehler: Buehler is the most talented arm we have on today’s slate. I expect him to get rather popular as the top spend-up option today. Buehler gets a slightly above-average matchup vs a right-handed heavy Cardinals lineup. They have a lot of strikeouts in their lineup as a national league ball club vs right-handed power pitchers like Buehler.

Sean Manaea: Manaea will be the other popular option tonight on tonight’s slate. He seems a little overpriced, but when you look at it through some slate context he is still firmly in play. The Mariners, who have been no-hit twice

Randy Dobnak: Dobnak is the type of pitcher I love to have on my team in DFS. He limits damage by keeping the ball down and generating a lot of soft contact. He would be priced significantly higher if he didn’t get extremely unlucky in his last outing. I am planting my flag on Dobnak today and will be playing him in all formats at sub 5% ownership.

Other GPP Targets: Jordan Montgomery, Alex Manoah

MLB Top Batters

Batters

C

Ben Rortvedt: I will be taking the savings and playing Rortvedt at min price today. Garver burned everyone last night with his groin injury landing him on the IL. I will be getting my Minnesota catcher redemption with Ben tonight.

Gary Sanchez: Man I hate writing up and playing this guy, but if I am spending up today it’s going to be for Gary. He may not be able to frame pitches, but when he makes contact with baseballs they go a long way. Yankees have been burning people recently and could go under-owned today.

1B

Nate Lowe: We have a cheap Coors bat vs a gas can that is Senzatela. Lowe has been extremely productive for the Rangers this year. I expect him to be popular but for good reason. This slate is difficult because the Coors guys are underpriced and in extremely good spots.

CJ Cron: It is likely we play a Coors bat at first base today. Between Lowe and Cron they will soak up a majority of the ownership in SE/3-max tournaments. I prefer taking the lower owned option in Cron vs Lyles. Cron has multi homerun upside that we really haven’t seen come out this year yet. We will be playing more and more Coors in the second half of the season as the weather warms up.

Alex Kiriloff: Investing in Kiriloff has been a profitable endeavor for Karma Nation this season. I am happy he has multi-position eligibility so that we can use him in the OF if attacking Coors at 1B. Even though he is going up against Matt Harvey, he could go overlooked on today’s slate.

2B

DJ LeMahieu: DJ vs a lefty is becoming a tradition for me in the breakdown. I will continue to invest in him and trust the historical data we have on him crushing left-handed pitching.

Josh Harrison: If you’re looking for a cheap option at 2B, look no further than Harrison. if he pulls an above-average lineup spot I will be all over him today.

Ozzie Albies: Albies is a great spend-up option, I want to be all over attacking Lester. I always like chasing Albies power upside from the right side.

3B

Josh Donaldson: Donaldson has been a popular target in the DFS industry recently. Projection systems are all over him for his cheap price tag. A matchup with Matt Harvey is a great way to find success.

Austin Riley: He was the best hitting third baseman in maybe all of baseball in the month of May. He still goes under-owned every day. I want to keep playing him especially if he goes under-owned.

SS

Trea Turner: Turner is a priority spend-up for me today. I want to keep playing him for his power/speed combo. Turner vs a lefty is always an elite play.

Isiah Finer-Falefa: Getting some exposure to the Rangers seems like a great thing to do today. I am unsure of what I want to do with the Rangers today, Turner is a priority for me, but Kiner-Falefa would fit into a Rangers stack.

OF

Ronald Acuna Jr: Acuna is the face of baseball right now and the hottest hitter in baseball at the moment. It’s difficult to not want to pick on Lester with an unbelievable hitter in Acuna. He will be popular but for good reason.

Texas OF: The Rangers outfield can be targeted for cheap. Calhoun and Gallo are extremely cheap and Gallo, in particular, has the upside that I love to target.

Stanton: Stanton was one of the hottest hitters in baseball before he went on the IL. I want to be back on him before he heats up again. I want Stanton at these cheap price tags.

Rockies OF: The Rockies OF will be under-owned today and I think Tapia, in particular, is a cheap option.

Stacks

“Team Batting Score” – A metric that quickly highlights overall team batting based on Runs Created (RC+) by team and comparing it to the average and standard deviation of all other MLB Teams
“Opp. Pitcher SP Score” – A weighted metric that evaluates today’s starting pitchers based on xFIP and Games Started (currently using partial end of 2020 data blended with the 2021 season)
“Opp. BP Score” – Similar to SP Score but weights the xFIP for the team’s bullpen

DK MLB Stacks

“T2” (and T3/T4/T5) represents the Top 2 projected hitters for the team on the left (not necessarily the top 2 hitters in the batting order)

Stacking is an extremely important element to MLB DFS. In MLB, all of your players are correlated to each other. Outside of solo homeruns, they need each other to succeed. If you look at the top of all of the big GPPs every night you will see stacks dominating the leaderboard.

When using our stacks chart, we want to identify teams that are projecting well but the ownership does not reflect their chance of success.

The Coors guys are obviously a good target today.

I think that the Braves are my favorite stack today and I want to have exposure to them today.

The Nationals and Yankees round out the list of my favorite stacks!
