Brian’s CBB DFS Top Plays 12/14

Welcome to Brian’s CBB slate breakdown. In this article I will share a few of my top plays on the slate, and discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here.

Guards

Marcus Zegarowski (Creighton) vs. Marquette

Zegarowski is the best player on this slate, and not priced like it.  In my opinion we are getting a discount with Zegarowski with his sub 8k price.  He is a great play in all formats at that price.  He is playing over 30 minutes per game and averaging 15 points per game.  He is coming into this game off of a 22 point performance from Nebraska.  Zegarowski also sports a 26% usage rate and is playing in a pace up game here vs. Marquette.  I like Zegarowski to keep up his good play, and believe this is the last time we will get him at a price under 8k.

Bryce Hamilton (UNLV) vs. Pepperdine

Bryce Hamilton is a tremendous talent, and comes into this game usage rate of 34% and a shot rate of 34%.  He is a player that isn’t only an elite scorer, he is an above average rebounder and a very good passer.  UNLV will need Hamilton to be at his best tonight vs. Pepperdine if they want a chance to beat them.  Pepperdine is not a great defensive team, and will struggle with a talent like Hamilton.  Hamilton and UNLV will try and push the pace as much as they can.  He has a very high ceiling tonight.

DJ Carton (Marquette) vs. Creighton

Carton, since being inserted into the starting lineup for Marquette, has averaged 30 minutes and 13 points per game.  He has been a solid contributor in scoring, rebounding and assist and has also done a very good job not turning the ball over.  Carton has carried the highest usage for this Marquette team over the last three games and expect him to be a big piece of this offense again tonight.  Carton will also see an uptick in usage tonight with Torrence out for an indefinite period of time.  McEwen is another good play from this Marquette team, but I will take the saving and go with Carton who has just as high of a ceiling that McEwen has.

Others to consider: C. Ross (PEPP); D. Mahoney (CREIGH); M. Ballock (CREIGH); E. Aylala (MD); J. Young (RUT); S. Altman (PEPP); P. Mulcahy (RUT); C. Grill (UNLV); H. Hart (MD)

Forwards

Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine) vs. UNLV

Edwards has been absolutely dominant for Pepperdine so far this year.  He is averaging 21 points, 7 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks per game.  He now finds himself in a matchup with a UNLV squad that likes to play fast, and lacks the frontcourt talent to keep up with a guy like Edwards that can do a little bit of everything.  He can score inside and outside at will and is very good at grabbing boards.

Dawson Garcia (Marquette) vs. Creighton

Garcia is on my radar tonight due to the uncertainty of Theo Johns availability.  John was limited in practice all week leading up to the UCLA game, leaving us to believe that he may not be 100% tonight.  John played 24 minutes vs. UCLA and looked like he was physically limited due to his injury.  Garcia played 35 minutes in that same game vs. UCLA and had a rather weak performance himself scoring 12 points and pulling in only 4 rebounds.  I expect a much better performance tonight, especially if he is still seeing 35+ minutes of work.

Ron Harper Jr. (Rutgers) vs. Maryland

Harper is off to a blazing start to his season, averaging 23 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assist per game.  Harper has a 25% usage rate and has a shot rate of 24%.  Maryland plays at a below average pace, making this not the ideal game environment to target Harper.  However, on a small slate, he is worth considering in tournaments.  If he is able to get scorching hot with his shot, and if he is able to add in a few ancillary stats with a hot shooting night, he could easily eclipse 35 fantasy points.

Others to consider: D. Defferson (CREIGH); C. Bishop (CREIGH); D. Scott (MD); J. Cain (MARQ); J. Zideck (PEPP); M. Johnson (RUT); K. Chukwuka (PEPP); J. Horne (COL)
