NBA DFS 1/11/21 – Ben’s Building Blocks

Welcome to another edition of Ben’s Building Blocks! In this article, I will highlight which players I’m building around in cash game formats for that given night. You can also gain access to our analysts core plays and Discord channel by clicking here!

Guard

Tyrese Maxey- The 76ers are one of the teams that have been slammed with health protocol issues, and will once again be without eight players for tonight’s game. They played with only eight players on Saturday vs Denver, which resulted in massive minutes for guys like Maxey, Danny Green and Dakota Mathias. Doc Rivers gushed to the media about Maxey after the game, rightfully so, after he poured in 39 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Obviously he isn’t going to lead the team in usage rate tonight with Embiid back, but he led the team in touches by over 30 on Saturday and will be a main focus on offense again. Our projections portal has him as the second best value on the slate, behind only Embiid.

Center

Joel Embiid- Speaking of Embiid, he is the lock of the slate and the first person most people will lock into cash game builds on Monday night. He will lead the 76ers JV team against the Hawks, and will dominate usage and the offense. He has been almost a 1.7 DK point per minute player without Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris on the floor dating back to last season, and now we are going to get a whole game in the split. The only concern here is that it is the front end of a back-to-back, but Rivers noted he was comfortable with “33-34 minutes” to the media. He is projected as the highest scorer tonight according to our projections, at 55.6 DK points.

Utility

Malcolm Brogdon- I typically go G/F/C in this article, but I’m going to forego that format tonight to highlight my favorite play on the slate in Malcolm Brogdon. Broggy’s price is up to $8,300 on DK, but I’m completely fine paying this price tag in a matchup vs the Kings. He has been his usual solid self this season with 1.18 DK points per minute, and has been dominating over the last week. His low point in the last four games was 43.5 DK points, thanks in part to logging 39 or more minutes in each of those contests. He really was trending downwards as a facilitator after the first few games this season, but has rebounded with dime totals of 9, 7, 11 and 7. He’s top-ten in potential assists in the entire league, and we’ve seen the Kings get demolished by guards, especially in transition this season. Our projections like him for over 40 fantasy points tonight, and I’m comfortable taking the over on that number.
