NBA DFS 1/16/20 – Bales’ Stacks and Hidden Gems for DraftKings

Welcome to Bales’ Stacks and Hidden Gems for today’s NBA DFS slate for DraftKings! Below, I will discuss my favorite NBA DFS plays for tonight’s slate!

Easy Breezy: Chalk Stack

Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks rank ninth and 17th in the NBA in pace, respectively. Phoenix also ranks 13th in offensive rating, while New York ranks only 27th in defensive rating. The Suns are -3 point favorites in a game set at 226 points, giving them an implied team total of 114.5 points.

Devin Booker

Devin Booker is the focal point of the Phoenix offense, and he could see a slightly larger role with Kelly Oubre Jr. out tonight. Booker is averaging 29.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.4 steals (46.3 DK points) in 37.1 minutes per game over the last 10 days. He has scored 40+ DK points in 9 of his last 10 games. Booker has posted 50+ DK points in 6 of those 10 games, as well. In his only matchup against New York this season, Booker posted 51.25 DK points in 38.3 minutes. Surprisingly, Booker has been slightly better on the road in 2019, and New York doesn’t have anyone that can slow him down. He’ll be the highest owned option for Phoenix.

Mikal Bridges

Mikal Bridges has seen plenty of ups and downs throughout the 2019 season. He’s averaging 8.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.0 steals (19.9 DK points) in 27.3 minutes per game over the last 10 days. Bridges has scored 30+ DK points in 2 of his last 5 games. With that being said, he scored only 5.25 DK points in a game over that span. Still, Bridges is relatively cheap, and is expected to see 30+ minutes tonight. He’ll find a bit of ownership as a player that can be used as both a guard or forward on this slate.

Deandre Ayton

Deandre Ayton hasn’t been overly dominant for his price tag recently, but he has been consistent. He’s averaging 17.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 blocks (36.3 DK points) in 31.4 minutes per game over the last 10 days. He has also scored 35+ DK points in 8 of his 10 games this season. In his only matchup against New York, Ayton posted 41.75 DK points in 37.3 minutes. He’ll see 30+ minutes once again, as Frank Kaminsky has been ruled out. Ayton adds a bit of consistency to this stack, but he also comes with plenty of upside for his price tag.

Important Odds: Vegas Stack

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans currently rank 21st and sixth in the NBA in pace this season. Utah ranks 11th in the league in offensive rating, while New Orleans ranks 25th in defensive rating. The Jazz are -5 point favorites in a game set at 225 points, and they possess one of the highest implied team totals on the slate at 115 points.

Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell has been far from dominant recently. He’s averaging 16.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.3 steals (28.8 DK points) in 29.4 minutes per game over the last 10 days. With that being said, Mitchell boasts 55+ DK points upside. He’s a player that relies heavily on scoring, and he can breakout in this matchup. In two matchups against New Orleans, Mitchell is averaging 45.4 DK points per game this season, flashing plenty of upside.

Joe Ingles

Joe Ingles saw limited minutes for a bit, but he has since played 30+ minutes in each of his last 2 games. In those games, he posted 42.75 and 42 DK points. Ingles has needed only 26.3 minutes to averaging 28.0 DK points per game against New Orleans this season. In their last game, Ingles posted 39.5 DK points in only 28 minutes. He’s expected to see 30+ minutes tonight, and makes an outstanding option in this game.

Bojan Bogdanovic

Bojan Bogdanovic has been a bit of a boom or bust option. He’s averaging 24.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists (30.6 DK points) in 30.4 minutes per game over the last 10 days. He has scored 30+ DK points in 3 of his last 5 games, including a 38.25 DK point performance against the Washington Wizards. Similarly to the other two options in this stack, Bogdanovic has found plenty of success against the Pelicans throughout this season.

Hidden Gem: Value Guard

Monte Morris

Monte Morris has been heating up a bit recently. He’s averaging 10.0 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists (19.4 DK points) in 21.1 minutes per game over the last 10 days. Morris hahs scored 20+ DK points in 3 of his last 5 games. He’s also averaging 0.90 DK points per minute through 40 games this season.

Morris gets a great matchup against the Golden State Warriors. They currently rank 13th in the NBA in pace and 20th in defensive rating. Morris is likely to play minutes in the mid-20s with Jamal Murray out tonight. He saw a small price increase for this game, but he can be considered in all leagues tonight.

Hidden Gem: Value Big

Cameron Johnson

Cameron Johnson has played in 37 games as a rookie. He’s averaging 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist (15.0 DK points) in 19.5 minutes per game. Johnson was forced into 25 minutes in his last game, scoring 25.5 DK points. He hasn’t been overly consistent in 2019, but has flashed at times when given the minutes.

Johnson gets a plus matchup against the New York Knicks. This matchup has already been outlined above. With Kelly Oubre Jr. and Frank Kaminsky out tonight, Johnson is likely to see minutes in the mid-20s again. He’s a player best suited for tournaments on this slate tonight.
