BJ’s CFB Bets & DFS Plays – Week 2

Bets:

Syracuse (+2)  @ Maryland

This is an interesting matchup between two teams with a lot of hype surrounding them.  We have Dino Babers and his 21st ranked Orangemen coming in to college park to take on Mike Locksley and his Terrapins.  Maryland hammered an inferior opponent in Howard last week dropping 79 points on them, while Syracuse took care of business vs. Hugh Freeze’s Liberty Flames.  Syracuse returns some dynamic players on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Dino always finds a way to have his team play inspired football. Mike Locksley seems to be coming into the year with an inspired Maryland football team that plays fast and with lots of energy. Josh Jackson looks legit, but I don’t think he’s gonna be enough to get the Terps past the hard hitting Orangemen.  I was surprised to see Syracuse as 2 point dogs, especially with the return of some key guys and one of the more underrated coaches leading them in Dino. I know that they are playing on the road, but a ranked team that has a strong group of upperclassmen facing a Maryland team that under achieved a year ago and has a new coach leading them this year, I will take Syracuse in this spot every time, especially as dogs! Sign me up.

Texas A&M (+17.5) @ Clemson

Is Trevor Lawrence human?  Na, probably not. He did however show some signs of bad decision making vs. a very poor GT defense.  Don’t get me wrong, he is a stud and Clemson is for real this year, however I believe Jimbo has this A&M squad ready for the challenge.  These two clubs played last year in college station and did not disappoint, and those two clubs were a lot further apart, talent wise, than they are this year.  I do believe Clemson is going to win this game but I just do not see Clemson covering the spread vs a VERY talented and great coached A&M team. I see this being a 10-13 pt game.  Mond is for real and this kid Spiller for A&M is going to be a beast, they will keep this game within a TD until late when Clemson finally gets a key turnover and score to make it a 2 possession game.

Bet 2 units on Texas A&M (+17.5) to win 1.9 units (-110)

Week 2 of CFB is here LETS GOO!!! Lots of great games on tap this week, Clemson vs. Texas A&M and Texas vs. LSU should provide us with all sorts of excitement.  Not to mention we have NFL starting up! What a weekend it’s going to be. Time to dive into this massive CFB slate we have this weekend!

High Tier:

QB: Trevor Lawrence (Clem) $9300 (FD) $8700 (DK)

Look not much needs to be said about this play.  Lawrence is one of if not the best QB in the nation.  He is facing one of his toughest opponents this year, but we all remember what he did to mighty Alabama in the Natty last year.  He brings more than just his arm to this matchup, he is a very effective runner as well. A&M brings a tough defense but can play undisciplined at times giving up big plays at times due to those mental lapses.  I could see him picking up 1-2 TD on the ground along with 1-2 in the air! Play him with confidence!

RB: Travis Etienne (CLEM) 10,200 (FD) $9400 (DK):

Look Etienne does not need much explanation.  He is one of the top backs in the country, and plays in one of the top offenses in the country.  He will be used early and often vs A&M to help loosen things up for Lawrence to make big plays down the field.  He averaged a ridiculous 17.1 ypc last week, and 8.1 ypc last year, that is crazy good! A&M will have to decide, do they load the box to stop Etienne or keep extra help on the back end to stop Lawrence.  Good luck making that decision. Etienne will smash this week and is obviously the top option on the slate at RB, but comes with a HEFTY price tag.

Others to consider: CJ Verdell (ORE) (FD ONLY)Really like him this week; Alex Fontenot (COL)

WR: Laviska Shenault Jr. (COL) $9600 FD; $800 DK

Shenault is one of the top wide receivers in college football.  He came out last week with a solid week but not a spectacular week.  I expect him to BALL OUT this week vs what appeared to be a very shaky Nebraska team.  Colorado will be playing at home this week and I expect that offense to really click and pile up the points.  Montez is a very strong QB and I expect him to find his favorite weapon in Shenault early and often. What makes Shenault such a threat is his ability to create after the catch.  Once that ball is in his hands he turns into a RB and can turn small 8-10 yd gains into 30, 40 and 50.

Others to consider:  Rondale Moore (PUR)

Mid:

Brandon Wimbush (UCF) $8700 (FD only):

Trevis is going to love this play.  UCF has one of the most potent offenses in college football and Wimbush gets the honor of being at the helm of it.  UCF gets to square off against FAU. If you go back to just last week when FAU played Ohio St. Justin Fields had a field day vs. this FAU defense.  Wimbush brings a lot of the same qualities and skill sets that Fields offers. I expect Wimbush to absolutely smash in this spot. Only drawback to his matchup is he will be on the road and will face a hostile environment, as this will be FAU’s biggest game.  Wimbush at this very moment is my favorite QB play on the slate.

Others to consider: Bo Nix(AUB) Adrian Martinez(NEB) Justin Herbert (ORE)

RB: Ke’Shawn Vaughn (VAN) $8700 (FD) $6100 (DK):

I’m sorry bud FD has this one all wrong.  Vaughn is among the elite RB in the country and gets an easy matchup this week with a weak Purdue defense.  I will be all in on Vaughn this week in a game that has the chance to be an absolute shootout as both defenses are very sub par.  Look for Vaughn to get going this week after being held in check last week vs. a very tough defense in Georgia. Vaughn is a great play on both sites.

Others to consider: Scottie Phillips(Ole Miss), Mo Neal (SYR)

WR: Kalija Lipscomb (VAN) $7800

Lipscomb is a very good WR and one that can rack up catches and yards at high rate.  He came out and had a very poor performance vs. Georgia last week, but Georgia also boast one of the strongest defenses in the SEC.  Poor QB play did not help his cause any either. I expect Vandy to come out and be more crisp on the offensive side of the ball and get Vaughn and Lipscomb involved early and often.  Purdue struggled defensively last week and I expect much of the same this week. It would not surprise me to see Lipscomb with 100+ yds receiving and a TD this week. $7800 is just to cheap for a WR with his talent.

Others to consider: Justyn Ross (CLEM), Tre Nix (UCF)

Value:

QB: Nate Stanley (Iowa) $5700 (DK Only)

This is a huge pricing discrepancy between the two sites.  Nate Stanley played a phenomenal game last weekend, even though it was against Miami (OH).  This play is only a DK play.  I would not pay his 9200 price tag on FD as I believe that he will not be able to pay off at that price, but on DK for $5700 I will play him with confidence vs. a Rutgers team that allowed UMass to score 21 points on them in the 1st quarter.  I believe that the Iowa Hawkeye defense will suffocate the offense of Rutgers and I could see this game getting out of hand quickly. 2ooyds passing and 2 tds will be enough to pay off that $5700 price tag and allow us to pay up and get some STUD RB’s this week.  Pairing Stanley and Wimbush/Lawrence on DK could be a very strong route to take this week.

QB: Matt Corral (Ole Miss) $7900 (FD ONLY)

Hear me out, Matt had a HORRIBLE game vs. Memphis last week, but Memphis has a very underrated defense that is full of athletes, and he was also playing on the road. Coral is a very talented QB who has no shortage of weapons surrounding him.  This week he gets to face a very weak defense in Arkansas at home, and I believe he bounces back in a big way. Coral can not only get things going through the air, but he can deliver on the ground as well, as he is a very underrated runner. I think this game has the potential to be a shootout.  At $7900 I will take the savings and the upside that Coral presents in this matchup and spend up for some stud RB and WR on this slate!

Others to consider:  Chris Robison (FAU), Zach Wilson (BYU), *Tommy Devito (SYR) really like him on FD

RB: James Charles ($6600 FD) and Larry McCammon ($7300 FD) – FAU

BJ Emmons has already been ruled out Saturday which opens up the door for these two guys to get heavier workloads.  I feel that Charles is going to get the start but both of these guys make good value plays. They will be facing a somewhat difficult challenge in the UCF defense but with the increase in caries and opportunities I love both of these guys to be able to pay off their respective prices.  FAU has a better offense than what they showed vs. Ohio St. and I expect Kiffin to have theses guys ready for Saturday and the offense will be much more effective.

Others to consider:  Jordan Mason- $4500 (GT) DK ONLY Reggie Corbin (ILL) 4400 DK; Lyn-J Dixon (CLEM); Isaiah Spiller (TA&M)punt

Games to target:

Nebraska (-4) @ Colorado  O/U 64.5

UCF (-11)  @ FAU O/U 68

Texas A&M @ Clemson (-17.5)  O/U 64.5
