Expert Picks and Analysis for Woodbine Mile and Undercard Stakes

Ricky Fuller (@splitxserenade on Twitter) Expert Picks

All eyes will be on Woodbine today as they have the 23rd running of the $1 million, Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. The Mile always seems to bring a mixed bag of international superstars together and today is no different. Slated for 5:42pm EST, we’ll get another chance to see the budding superstar girl, Got Stormy, go up against the boys again.  We will get to see 3 other stakes races today at Woodbine and I’d like to give my expert picks and analysis on each of those races as well.

Race 3: Bold Venture Stakes
6-1/2F Main – 2:14pm Est.
It’s going to be tough to beat Pink Lloyd (#2). An impressive record of 26 starts finishing 21/1/1.  Also perfect this year going 5/5.  It would take an extreme slip up for any of these horses to get to the wire first, but I do like what Ive seen out Sable Island (#4) as a board hitter. Curlin’s Honor (#1) is more lightly raced and hasn’t found a win in 5 starts this year, but I like this one to find his way soon.  Longer shot, but Yorkton (#7) is also pretty game to find his way on the board as he normally will lead the charge.  If you’re betting, there will be little value to the #2, so look to use him in expert picks sequences.
Best Bets:
$50 Win 2
$0.20 Key Box 2/1,4,7

Race 7: Canadian Stakes
1-1/8M Turf – 4:30pm Est.
This race seems to be a 3 horse race.  Competitionofideas (#5), Starship Jubilee (#6) and Holy Helena (#2) will all be battling for a win here.  Unfortunately, this seems like another low value race unless you can find a horse that will upset.  The only horse that I could see possibly factoring is Magnetic Charm (#3).  If the price on Magnetic Charm goes up, it wouldn’t be terrible to put a show bet out there.  Don’t go crazy, but I like her 2019 races where she’s hit the board all 3 times.  In this race, even with how much I do like the 5, Im going to try and find some value and use the 6 to win.
Best Bets:
$5 Win Place Show 6
$0.20 Superfecta 2,5,6/2,5,6/2,3,5,6/1-7

Race 9: Woodbine Mile
1M Turf – 5:42pm Est.
The main event has 11 horses (2 girls and 9 boys) going a mile on turf.  The morning line favorite is Got Stormy (#5).  She is one of the girls taking on boys again after her G1 victory at Saratoga.  She is a surprising horse who is blossoming at the right time.  Raging Bull (#7) is yet to find his first win of 2019, but I think this race sets up for that.  Raging Bull is a closer so we will expect to see him near the back of the field before making a late push.  Awesometank (#6) should be seen pressing the lead and possibly having enough in the tank to hold on.  Synchrony (#4) gets one of the all time great turf riders in Flavien Prat.  Definitely worth noting that Synchrony is having an almost equally great 2019 as Got Stormy.  This should be a fun one to see how it plays out.  If you’re playing long exotics, make sure to factor in the 2,3 and 9. Here are some of the expert picks.
Best Bets:
$10 Win Place 7
$1 Exacta 4,5,7/4,5,6,7

Race 10: Northern Dancer Turf Stakes
1-1/2M Turf – 6:17pm Est.
Focus Group (#3) is the class of the field in my eyes, although Tiz a Slam (#6) might argue that.  I think that Focus Group has battled tougher opponents than Tiz a Slam, which explains the 1 win in 4 starts for Focus Group.   Old Persian (#1) ships over from GB and tests his skills against North Americans.
Best Bets:
$2 Exacta Box 1,2,6
$5 Show 5
