2018 The Open Championship – Trevis’ Punt Plays

If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

Last Week Recap:

Patton Kizzire – $11,500 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,800 FD – Finished -12 in 30th

Jonathan Byrd – $11,300 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,100 FD – MC

2018 The Open Championship

This event is played at Carnoustie which is a Par 71 at 7,402 yards with bent and fescue greens.

Pat Perez – $11,400 FDraft | $7,000 DK | $8,500 FD

Because The Open alternates it’s course each year, I won’t be touching on course history at all, but just similar course recent form. With that being said, Perez clocks in 20th overall in total strokes gained. His best stats are 7th overall in both SG: SG and SG: P. I’m slightly worried about his below average ranking in OTT.

Adam Hadwin – $11,6000 FDraft | $7,000 DK | $8,500 FD

Hadwin is the highest out of all this week’s Punt Plays in total strokes gained being 9th overall. Like Perez, his below average OTT frightens me, but like Perez again, his 5th overall ranking in SG: P and THIRD overall in SG: SG should be enough to make the cut.

Alexander Levy – $11,500 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,900 FD

Good new is that Levy ranks 23rd overall in SG: OTT, bad news is he is below average in SG: APP. Levy is 35th overall in total strokes gained and that is actually the lowest of the Punt Plays this week. I was able to get 5 cheapos in the top 35. Crazy.

Shubhankar Sharma – $11,200 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,800 FD

Someone Anthony has been on for most of the last few months, Sharma or “Schwarma” is 23rd overall in total strokes gained. He doesn’t have any recent from stats that scare me and his best are 27th in SG: T2G, 23rd in SG: BS, and 19th in SG: OTT.

Ernie Els – $10,300 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,000 FD

I tend to always add a Punt Play that is legit minimum salary. Els is the best of them. 26th overall in total strokes gained. Sucks in OTT as well but makes up for it with a 14th in SG: APP. If he makes the cut, you could win a GPP with him.
