2018 Wyndham Championship – Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays

If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

2018 Wyndham Championship

This event is held at Sedgefield CC and is played at a Par 70 at 7,100 yards. This course sports Bermuda greens. All of this week’s Punt Plays haven’t missed a cut at this event since 2014.

Davis Love III – $11,300 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,200 FD

DL3 is this week’s Punt Play of the Week. He took down this event in 2015, finished 10th here last year, and hasn’t missed the cut since 2014. He clocks in at 15th overall in total strokes gained. All of his stats are ranked in the top 66 with his best being 17th in SG: SG and 13th in SG: P.

Martin Flores – $11,800 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,100 FD

Flores had the best Punt Play finish here last year when he was 7th. He next best recent finish was 16th in 2013. Flores checks in at 27th overall in total strokes gained. All but one stat check in the top 52 with that one being SG: ARG which ranks near dead last.

Jonathan Byrd – $11,000 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,000 FD

Byrd Finished 18th here in 2015 and 37th here last year. Byrd comes in at 19th in total strokes gained. Only one stat is outside the top 45, which is still a respectable 64th in SG: OTT.

Sean O’Hair – $11,000 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,500 FD

O’Hair is the only Punt Play to actually compete here in 2016 when he finished 22nd. He did not compete here in 2015 or last year. Sean checks in at the highest in total strokes gained at 12th overall. He ranks 16th in SG: SG and SECOND overall in SG: P. Like Flores, SG: ARG is his only abysmal stat also ranking near the bottom.

Adam Schenk – $10,900 FDraft | $6,400 DK | $7,100 FD

Adam has no recent course history as he has not competed here. Schenk is the min (or near min) salary Punt Play this week. As mentioned he has no recent course history, but he does clock in at 31st in total strokes gained. All of his stats come in the top 71 which isn’t too shabby for one of the cheapest options on the slate.
