It's finally that time of year again! A few quick notes before we get started...
- There 100% is an edge in NFL preseason DFS if you take the time to research and keep up on the late breaking inactives, these articles will be a guide to constructing your rosters and i will update them to the best of my ability. Remember to check back a half hour before lock to assure i haven't made a key update!
- Lots of questions coming in about what you are looking for in players etc. Obviously volume is king here in preseason but you also need to know exactly how to judge the volume. One whole half of a guy playing with fourth stringers is not going to be as good as a guy playing a quarter with second stringers IN MOST CASES. It's really slate dependent and early on in the preseason the edge is incredible due to the amount of guys playing that the average fans have literally never heard of.
- Scoring in Preseason DFS is WAY SOFTER than regular season. You are literally hunting for 2-3x from your players and it will be extremely low scoring.
With that being said let's get on with the show! Keep in mind the options listed below are NOT in order, I'm just highlighting the plays that I am on the most
Josh Dobbs- With Big Ben and Landry both already ruled out for tonight that leaves Dobbs and Bart Houston to play the whole game. Houston doesn't really profile much more than a camp guy to me so I could see Dobbs playing well into the 3rd quarter. He's one of the top plays on the slate just based off workload alone.
Jameis Winston- I absolutely hate hate hate playing starters the first two weeks of preseason DFS but you almost have to consider Famous an option tonight. Koetter has said that the starters will play "about a quarter" in tonights game and Winston could easily be the highest scoring QB with a full quarter of play. That's the concern though, we don't really know if he means 10-15 plays or a legit quarter. Winston threw for 97 yards and TD in his "quarter" of work last year in preseason week one.
Jeff Driskel- Driskel has been garnering some camp buzz for the Bengals and it's pretty much going to be him and McCarron tonight. The Bengals pretty much know what they have in McCarron so I feel as if Driskel will get the majority of the snaps tonight. He's in consideration for now and can get a boost in value if news breaks in his favor closer to lock.
UPDATE #1: I think I'm leaning McCarron along with Driskel now based off reports. McCarron should see enough run to be a viable play.
Joe Mixon- I kind of want to avoid the Bengals backfield here because there are three guys we could use. In addition to Mixon, there's Tra Carson and Stantley Williams who are both having stellar camps. I think Mixon will get the early burn and then it will shift to Carson/Williams in the second half. Carson had a couple big games last preseason so keep an eye on him as well. Check back and see if there's an update on playing time closer to lock.
CJ Spiller- If Charcandrick West gets ruled out then that will leave the majority of burn for rookie Kareem Hunt and Spiller. I lean Spiller because I feel like Hunt already has his roster spot locked up and we could see a lot of Spiller in the second half. He should see some kick returning duties as well which is always an added bonus.
Matt Breida- Entrenched in a battle with Joe Williams and Tim Hightower for the backup role. Williams has got some camp buzz early on but I like Breida here and if we get news he will play into the second half that would be huge.
Terrell Watson- Got some praise from Coach Tomlin throughout the preseason and he's absolutely HUGE. He's listed at 240 pounds and is a solid bet for touchdown tonight especially if the Steelers get inside the 10.
Aldrick Robinson- Should be famous among anyone thats played preseason DFS as he has come out and just blown up in preseasons past. Should be decently popular just off his name value.
Juju Smith Schuster- The top stack choice with Dobbs is the rookie out of USC. There have been reports that he has "great chemistry" with Dobbs and he has garnered some buzz in camp.
Chris Godwin/Derel Walker- Godwin is the player I'm most excited to watch tonight and he should see some reps with Winston and the twos. He's been absolutely lighting up camp and he should be popular tonight. I'm waiting to see if we get a report about how much Walker will play but this guy is coming out of the CFL and he was an absolute monster there. If he's going to get second half run I think he's going to be better than all of the 3rd stringers he's going against but he is risky.
Trent Taylor- Taylor is a small receiver but will work great on a full point PPR site like Draftkings. He has a relatively safe floor here I could see him catching 5 or 6 balls.
UPDATE #1: Bump up Alex Erickson for the Bengals. Could play "all four quarters"
OJ Howard- Howard shoots up my rankings tonight with the news that Winston will play a quarter. He should stay in a little bit after Winston leaves too and he's just a freak athlete and could definitely see a red zone target or two.
Evan Engram- Engram is kind of a hybrid receiver/tight end guy and the Giants will want to see a lot of run out of him tonight. Tied with Howard for the top tight end play as of now.
UPDATE #1: Bump up Tyler Kroft with Uzomah out. Could catch one from McCarron.
Bucs, Giants or Chiefs are in consideration.
