It's finally that time of year again! A few quick notes before we get started...
- There 100% is an edge in NFL preseason DFS if you take the time to research and keep up on the late breaking inactives, these articles will be a guide to constructing your rosters and i will update them to the best of my ability. Remember to check back a half hour before lock to assure i haven't made a key update!
- Lots of questions coming in about what you are looking for in players etc. Obviously volume is king here in preseason but you also need to know exactly how to judge the volume. One whole half of a guy playing with fourth stringers is not going to be as good as a guy playing a quarter with second stringers IN MOST CASES. It's really slate dependent and early on in the preseason the edge is incredible due to the amount of guys playing that the average fans have literally never heard of.
- Scoring in Preseason DFS is WAY SOFTER than regular season. You are literally hunting for 2-3x from your players and it will be extremely low scoring.
With that being said let's get on with the show! Keep in mind the options listed below are NOT in order, I'm just highlighting the plays that I am on the most.
Jameis Winston- Reports out of Tampa Bay are that Winston and the first team offense will play the first half (or close) on Thursday night...that's really all you need to know. 1.5-2 quarters of Winston is pretty much impossible to top on a three game slate.
Matt McGloin- If you're playing one team play Jameis flat out, but obviously for us running multiple tournament teams we will need to differentiate on a few. Nick Foles "likely" will be out again and Wentz is supposed to play 1-2 series like he did last week. Once Wentz is out that will leave McGloin to play pretty the rest of the game, Dane Evans only attempted 8 passes last week. McGloin threw 28 times last week and has upside with the extended run he should get.
Blake Bortles- There's been no word yet on how much the starters will play for the Jaguars, but if news comes out that they will get 1+ quarters Bortles is in consideration. Check back closer to lock for an update on the Jax situation.
Ryan Mallett- Will be popular because he should see a lot of playing time but I'll pass here...he sucks.
Corey Clement/Donnell Pumphrey- With Ryan Mathews cut and the starters only expected to get 2 series the Philly run game situation becomes a little clearer, but there's also speculation that Wendall Smallwood will return from injury so make sure to check back for an Eagles update. Pumphrey was reportedly playing hurt during week one but he was still used heavily in the passing game on top of getting some carries. He only managed 12 yards but caught 5 passes which works fine on Draftkings. Clement was pretty bad but still saw 7 carries.
Corey Grant- Leonard Fournette is likely out with an injury and there's no reason to risk Chris Ivory in the preseason. That leaves TJ Yeldon and Corey Grant to mainly soak up the run game for the Jags. Grant should get a chance to leapfrog Yeldon here especially after he ripped off a 70 yard touchdown run last week. He's a burner and only needs one play to break the slate.
Ravens RBs- This situation is contingent on whether or not we get news about Bobby Rainey's playing time. I expect him to see some more action tonight, but check back closer to lock for an updated look at the Ravens backs.
Damien Williams/De'veon Smith- Ajayi and Kenyan Drake are both "likely" out for this game as both are in concussion protocol. Williams saw six attempts last week and I expect that to increase tonight while Smith saw the most carries during grind out mode in the fourth quarter. Both are in consideration and can get boosted/knocked down based on later news.
6:00 UPDATE: Smallwood OUT for the Eagles, that helps Pumphrey a good bit. Ajayi will play for the Dolphins, that takes me off Williams. Buck Allen looks like the Ravens RB to own, should you go that route.
Mike Evans- The lock of the slate. If he's 90% owned then that's 10% of people we don't have to worry about.
Dezmin Lewis- Saw the most targets on the Bills in week one and hauled in a touchdown. Also not scared of the Philly secondary whatsoever.
Allen Robinson- Like Bortles, if we get word the starters will play 1+ quarters he's in consideration. We all saw the video of Robinson at practice angrily talking about Bortles under his breath. Seems like this could be a good spot to force feed ARob and calm him down a bit.
Jakeem Grant/Leo Carroo- Grant saw the most targets for the Dolphins in week one and I think he will come in lower owned than Carroo so I slightly prefer him out of the Dolphins WRs. Carroo is fighting for a roster spot but his touchdown was his only catch of the game.
Bryce Treggs- McGloin targeted him 8 times in week one and frankly thats all I care about. He has a rapport with the QB that will be playing most of the game so he's in consideration.
Quincy Adeboyejo- He saw the most targets on the Ravens though he does have Ryan Mallett throwing to him.
6:00 UPDATE: All of these guys are knicked up!!! Carroo is OUT for the Dolphins, boosting Jakeem. Treggs/Quincy also are questionable to play be sure to check back before lock.
Cam Brate- Following the Bucs starters narrative.
Trey Burton- Saw three targets in week one and there's been some buzz from the Eagles beats that they want to see him in the slot. With Jordan Matthews gone that becomes a lot easier.
Dolphins or Eagles.
