Slate Thoughts:

  • We have reached Championship week, and while we do have a lot of conference championship games, we also have a few outlier games that really don’t mean a whole lot.  However, those games that don’t mean much are some of the best to target for fantasy production.  I am really looking forward to watching Florida vs. Alabama and Clemson vs. Notre Dame, both games holding CFB playoff ramifications. Devonte Smith has a great opportunity to put a lid on the Heisman chase, but Kyle Trask has a chance to enter his name back into the mix if he is able to pull out the ole rabbits foot and beat this Alabama squad. Ok lets talk about who I will be targeting tomorrow.
  • Ohio State will be taking on Northwestern in the Big 10 championship, a game that absolutely no one is excited to watch.  With that said, Justin Fields and his all-star wide receivers should be able to produce big days here.  You have to believe that Ohio State is going to try and win this game and win with some style points, so that it leaves no doubt in the minds of the voters that they are one of the 4 best teams in the country.  Fields is my top quarterback this weekend, and pairing him with either Olave or Wilson will be a route I look to take with this team.  Pairing all three of these guys will cost you a pretty penny, fortunately for us, we have some value on this slate, and just may be able to make it work. Keep an eye on Ohio State Covid news, reports have come out that they could be missing a big impact player this week from their receiver room.
  • Next we have Clemson looking for revenge against this Notre Dame team.  Trevor Lawrence is going to be out for blood in this one, and I feel sorry for this ND defense.  Notre Dame has fielded a very respectable defense all year long, but this Clemson offense, especially with Lawrence leading it, is a different beast.  I absolutely love a Clemson stack this weekend, and believe they may see some depressed ownership.  If that ends up being the case, I want to be over exposed to the Tigers.  Amari Rodgers is priced too low this weekend and will be one of my top receivers I target in tournaments.  If Notre Dame looks to deploy the same type of strategy they did last time out vs. Clemson, looking to stuff the run and force Clemson to throw, it could be a long day for this ND secondary.  I know, pick your poison right?  Give me Lawrence, Powell and Rodgers in a Clemson stack!
  • I was extremely excited to play Elijah Moore just one more time before he made the jump to the NFL, unfortunately he has declared and will not be playing this week.  A good thing that comes from this, is that it opens up so much value from the Ole Miss wide receivers, because Yeboah also has declared and will not be playing.  I love Matt Corral and think he is going to be a very good NFL QB one day, but he will be tasked with throwing to some new faces this week.  Will they be on the same page?  Will the struggle? yea this is all possible, but that is not going to stop Lane Kiffin from trying to score 60. This game is one of my favorite games to target on this slate, and if the weather cooperates, this game will have a chance to be the highest scoring game on the slate.  Mingo, Drummond and Sanders are the three receivers I will look to target from this Rebels team, Mingo being my favorite.  He is priced under 4k, and should provide nice salary relief on a weekend we are trying to play the top guys.
  • On the other side of the Ole Miss game is the LSU Tigers. Fresh off their upset win vs Florida (HAHA), they look to keep the momentum going against the Rebels.  LSU is planning on turning to their Freshman QB Max Johnson again this week.  He played really well against Florida, and showed that he is more than capable of picking up yards on the ground. Johnson should find this matchup even easier than the Florida one, because with Ole Miss, defense is optional. Give me Max Johnson paired with his top receiver Kayshon Boutte.  A game stack is in play in tournaments.  Also, one thing to keep an eye on with LSU is their running back situation.  Chris Curry very well could be one of only two healthy running backs on this team, and could see an extremely heavy workload.  This is all dependent on Emory being out with an injury.  If Emory ends up playing, and is reported to have no limitations, he would be the top back, however I do not see this happening because Emory has barely practiced all week…. we will see.
  • Finally, I need to talk about the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Mississippi State and Will Rogers will be taking on Missouri this weekend in what could be a game that slides under the radar.  Will Rogers has continued to grow in this Air Raid offense, and looks really good running it.  A break out player for this Mississippi State team over the last 3 weeks has been Jaden Walley.  Walley has 24 receptions for almost 400 yards over his last 3 games. Walley is one of my top plays on this slate, and I believe this Rogers to Walley combo is poised for a really big day.  Missouri is REALLY thin in the secondary right now, playing multiple freshman. They will struggle guarding all of these air raid passing concepts and I can see them getting lost in space leaving Mississippi State receivers running wide open.  Rogers and Walley, that may end up being  the key to 25k!
  • It appears that Nakia Watson will draw the start this week for Wisconsin. He is priced under 4k and presents solid upside.  He will be facing a weak Minnesota defense that is allowing over 200 rush yards per game.  Solid option in cash games and can be used in tournaments if you need salary relief, though I do prefer the Ole Miss WR in tournaments for salary relief.
