Slate Thoughts:

Week 9

Quarterback

  • Desmond Ridder comes into this matchup vs. Tulane off the heels of a two pretty pedestrian performances, only accounting for 25 total fantasy points over those two games.  This week he gets a very soft matchup vs. Tulane who allow over 319 pass yards per game and nearly 220 rush yards per game.  There is always some concern that Jerome Ford goes absolutely nuclear on the ground thus leaving Ridder with low totals in passing and rushing.  However, I do expect to see Ridder be more productive in this game, and we should see him return to levels that we saw earlier this year.  At only 8.3k on Dk, he makes tons of sense for cash games and gpps due to the upside he has vs. this horrific Tulane defense.
  • Adrian Martinez is another QB that I have a good bit of interest in.  Martinez has been really good on the ground this year, and has played really well vs. some very stout defenses, like Michigan.  The weakness in this Purdue defense is defending the run. They are allowing 145 rypg. Martinez comes with a very solid floor due to his ability to rush the ball, especially in the red zone.  This should be a very competitive game, and he also gets the added benefit of playing at home.  I like Martinez in all formats this weekend.
  • Kenny Pickett is another guy in this 8k range that makes a ton of sense in all formats.  He gets a soft matchup vs. a Miami defense that ranks 96th in the country in passing defense, allowing over 255 pass yards per game.  Pickett is actually getting some Heisman buzz right now, and rightfully so with how good he has been playing this year.  On the year he is averaging 320 yards per game through the air, and has thrown for 23 touchdowns and only 1 interception.  He has also added in 3 rushing touchdowns.  I am planning on making Ridder, Martinez or Pickett my QB for my main team this weekend, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.
Others to consider:  S. Thompson (KSU); S. Hartman (WF); C. Williams (OKLA); T. Van Dyke (MIA); S. Thompson (KSU)

Running Back

  • Deuce Vaughn is one of the most dynamic running backs in the country.  On the year Vaughn has 30 receptions for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns, to go along with over 500 yards rushing and 7 TD’s.  TCU allow 240 rush yards per game and over 260 pass yards per game.  This sets up great for Vaughns skill set.  Vaughn should continue to see increased opportunities in the red zone with Thompson being limited due to injury.
  • Will Shipley is a value option that I really like this week.  He returned from injury last week, and received 10 carries for 52 yards.  He should see an increase in opportunities here, especially with Pace being listed on the Covid list.  At only 5.7k he is a very good value play vs. an FSU defense that allows 170 rypg, especially with how poor value is on this slate at the moment.
Others to consider: K. Brooks (OKLA); J. Ford (CINCY); M. Durant (DUKE); S. Carr (IU); B. Hall (ISU); T. Dye (Oregon)

Wide Receiver

  • Jaquarii Roberson is on absolute fire right now, catching 23 balls for 427 yards and 3 touchdowns over his last three games.  He gets a great matchup vs. a Duke defense that allow 315 pass yards per game.  Once again Roberson, Perry and Hartman are a great trio to target in tournaments.  They should be able to do whatever they want vs. Duke this weekend.
  • David Bell is priced way too low this week, and is an elite option for me in all formats.  Bell, every week, continues to be heavily targeted in this Purdue offense.  Nebraska are decent vs. the pass, only allowing 215 ypg through the air, however Bell has proven that he is matchup proof, and I really do not see anyone on this Nebraska team slowing him down.  I fully expect that he will be heavily involved in the game plan as always, and produce huge numbers for us at a depressed price of only 7.1k.
Others to consider:  C. Kolar (ISU); T. Thornton (BAY); T. Fryfogle (IU); P. Hendershot (IU); J. Addison (Pitt); X. Worthy (UT)
