Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays – 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open

For those of you new to the plethora of content DFSKarma.com puts out on a daily/weekly basis, this is my weekly PGA article that focuses on the cheapos no one else dare write about. It had massive success last year with my getting sub $7K (DK) golfers finishing top 10 at less than 1% ownership on an almost weekly basis. Well, I’m bringing it back this year with the same concept. My cap this year is $7300 in DraftKings pricing (but you can still play them on FanDuel, FantasyDraft, or Yahoo). I focus on recent form and course history heavily to spit out my favorite 5 golfers from within that range.

2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open

The WMO is played on TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course. This event plays as a Par 71, stretches 7266 yards, and has Bent grass greens.

Steve Stricker – $6500 DK | $9000 FD

Stricker has competed in this event in each of the last 3 years where he made the cut each of the last 2. He highest finish out of those two was just a 31st place finish. Steve has the best recent form as he comes in at 5th overall in total strokes gained in my model. His SG: OTT is worrisome at 94th best, but ALL of his other stats are in the top 29, including 4th overall in SG: APP.

Lucas Glover – $7200 DK | $9700 FD

Lil Glove has played at this event 4 out of the last 5 years, only missing the cut in 2014. His highest finish in the last 3 years he made the cut was 36th. Glover clocks in at 9th overall in total strokes gained. His worst stat is 62nd in SG: ARG. He has 3 stats in the top 21 (T2G, BS, APP).

Brian Harman – $7000 DK | $8900 FD

B’Harm didn’t compete here last year, but he did make the cut each of the 3 years prior with his best finish being in 2017 (24th). Harman’s recent form is “meh” as the only reason he ranks 13th overall in total strokes gained is his bent grass putting ability (3rd Overall) and short game (6th Overall).

Harris English – $6900 DK | $8400 FD

Even though I didn’t have a Punt Plays article last week due to attending the 2019 FSTA Winter Conference, I mentioned in our Premium Discord that Harris was my Punt of the week. Well, he wound up missing the cut. But, due to my “week after I write about him” narrative AND the fact he has two TOP 9 finishes in the last 5 years here, he is sticking around. Harry is 17th overall in total strokes gained. Like Harman, he excels (recently) on bent grass greens as well as his ARG (3rd Overall).

Kiradech Aphibarnrat – $7000 DK | $8100 FD

Barnrat did not compete here in the last 4 years. He last appearance was in 2014 where he finished 67th. He shows up at 16th overall this week in total strokes gained. He is the only Punt Play this week to not have a “recent form” stat below 42nd overall.
