Rory McIlroy to win (+1000) or Tommy Fleetwood to win (+3500)

As we inch closer to the Florida Swing one thing is for certain; Rory McIlory is finding his groove. It seems as if McIlory tends to play well prior to and during the Florida swing. For those who might have forgotten, Rory took the field by storm with his late surge at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last season. Last week during the Genesis Open, Rory struggled in his opening round shooting a 1-over 71. But the he quickly answered struggles with a blistering 63. The third round was hard to gauge, shortened by rain and darkness most players having to finish their round Sunday morning prior to their final round. But there was a point when Rory was on hole 7 about 151 yards out, within striking distance of the leaders, he knocked one close. After he sank his birdie from inside 8 feet I had this feeling. The feeling that if there’s anyone who’s close enough to the top that can make a run, it’s Rory. But the winds picked up and the temperature began to drop, and golf began very difficult for the field. Ultimately, he could not capitalize on his chances and finished 4th in the tournament. The great thing about the location of Club de Golf Chapultepec, is the players will not have to deal with wet, cold, and rainy conditions. Rory this season is 1st off the tee and 3rd tee to green, with 3 top-10 finishes. Sitting at +1000 odds, I will take that. Remember, picking a player to win any golf tournament is a crap shoot. Gambling is all about bankroll management. Bets like these are just for fun.

The second bet I am eyeing is Tommy Fleetwood to win for +3500. I honestly think one of the Big 8 will win (Johnson, McIlroy, Rahm, DeChambeau, Folwer, Woods, Koepka), but I love odds like this for a streaky golfer with no pressure. Tommy Fleetwood has not won a tournament this season in Europe, nor has he had his first career PGA Tour victory. But for a dark horse, I am perfectly fine riding with Tommy Fleetwood. Two years ago, he fared well in this tournament finishing 2nd. There are several dark horses who are more than worthy of a bet, but honestly what better weekend for Tommy Fleetwood to win his first tournament of the year.

Be sure to tune into What’s the Spread, I will be covering tournament winners and help you win your office pool during all four majors.
