Frank’s NHL Value Vault 12/5/19

Hello again Karma Nation,

I had a question about how much value I place on the “hot streaks” of players. When I look for value plays on any given slate, it is more about the defensive match up that player will face that game. How well they have been playing in their last five games is the time frame I use to determine if a player is worth riding or ignoring. Thanks to @biscuit1402 for the question.

Feel free to hit me up on twitter with any questions you have.

-Insights and player picks for tonight’s 9 game schedule-

  • Biggest favorites: BOS, TB, CGY
  • Highest game totals: COL@MON, SJ@CAR, MIN@TB
  • Lowest game totals: ARI@PHI, WPG@DAL, BUF@CGY

Offense:

Danton Heinen BOS ($3500-DK, $4700-FD) is playing on the 2nd scoring line with Marchand, and on the Bruins’ top power play line now. This will increase his chances to pick up points, and so will facing the 24th ranked defense of Chicago on home ice tonight.

Luke Kunin MIN ($2700-DK, $3400-FD) is one of the reasons why the Wild have won four straight, and have picked up at least one point in the standings in seven straight. Not only does Kunin see 2nd-unit PP time, but and has scored in two of his last three games, and gets the Lightning’s 27th ranked defense tonight.

Valeri Nichushkin COL ($3800-DK, $4300-FD) is an example of a skater on a “hot streak” with a point in five of his last seven, while blasting 22 shots over that span of games. Seeing 2nd-unit PP time and Montreal’s shaky 28th ranked defense make this a strong play for me.

Also consider: Derek Ryan CGY ($3300-DK, $3700-FD)

Defense:

Mikhail Sergachev TB ($3900-DK only) helps direct the 2nd-unit power play for Tampa, and this game has a good chance to be the highest scoring of the night. Sergachev already has 15 points this season, including one each in six of his last seven games, and he goes against the Wild’s next-to-last ranked defense.

Ryan Murray CLS ($3500-both sites) has been one of the most consistent d-men for the Jackets, and plays 2nd-unit PP time. He’s coming off an assist/four shot game two nights ago and will face the Rangers’ 23rd ranked defense on home ice.

Also consider: Roman Polak DAL ($3300-DK, $3500-FD)

Goaltenders:

David Rittich CGY ($7900-DK, $7800-FD) is a great cash game play priced under 8K on both sites with Calgary being the 3rd highest favorite on the board. Rittich also has won three of his last four, and owns a 2.69 GAA so far this season.

Brian Elliot PHI ($7600-FD only) has not had a regulation loss in his last seven outings, and Arizona’s offense ranks 22nd in the league with a mediocre 2.7 goals/game scoring average. The Flyers have been giving their netminders great goal support lately, having won five straight games, with only one regulation loss at home all season.

Best of luck cashing your lineups!
