Chris’ NHL Opening Day Breakdown

What’s up Karma Nation!

Hey folks! It’s about that time again. Hockey season is back and we have a four game slate today. I am going to breakdown a few of my top plays along with a few stacks I like. Let’s kick the season off on the right foot!

Centers

Auston Matthews- The Leafs superstar is the top overall center tonight. The Leafs have the highest total on the slate, my goal is to get 2-3 Leafs in my cash lineup against the depleted Senators and it starts with Matthews.

Connor McDavid- Mcjesus is the best player in the world and can produce no matter who his linemates are. I don’t think I will go here in cash, but he is my top overall tournament play.

John Tavares- I don’t mind going JT in cash at all. He comes with a slightly cheaper price tag than Matthews and skates on the Leafs top power play.

Cody Glass- The Knights rookie center is skating on the second line tonight while also getting time on the top power play. Oh yeah, he is $2,900 on DraftKings and $3,600 on Fanduel. Lock on DK.

Lars Eller- The Caps second line center had a really good preseason. With the absence of Kuznetsov, he will need to step up on the road vs the defending Stanley Cups Champs.

Wingers

Alexander Ovechkin- The best winger on the slate is fully in play for me today on DraftKings. Ovi has incredible shot volume which fits perfect for the scoring over on DraftKings.

Andreas Johnsson- Another Leafs player with an even cheaper price tag who skates alongside Matthews and also gets top power play time. He is one of my favorite plays of the night.

Timo Meier- The Sharks winger is a close lock for me on Fanduel today. I think he may come in a little chalky and rightfully so. Timo is also getting top power play time and if the Sharks win this game, I am sure he will have something to do with that.

Max Pacioretty- The Knights have the second highest total on the slate and Max is my favorite play from this game. He had a great preseason and will skate on the teams top power play.

Joakim Nygard- Joakim will be getting the pleasure to skate alongside McDavid today. I think this is the best way to get you exposure to McJesus. His Price is way to cheap on DraftKings.

Vladimir Tarasenko- This is a DK only play for me. He’s much cheaper over there and is the Blues best player. If your looking for some Blues exposure, I would start with Vlad, he has tremendous shot volume as well.

Kasperi Kapanen- If your in search for a cheap Leafs player, I think Kapanen fits that bill. Kasperi is skating on the top line for the Leafs, alongside some big guns in John Tavares and Mitch Marner.

Defensemen

Brent Burns- Okay, with DK changing the new scoring system, I think this now makes top shooting D-men top plays. Burns is the most talented defensemen in the league and controls the puck more then anyone on the Sharks. He is a lock for me today on DraftKings.

Erik Karlsson- If you’re looking for a cheaper top defensemen, look no further then Karlsson. Erik will skate on the top power play tonight and has upside on DraftKings. For me, I’ll just be paying up for Burns.

Alexander Edler- Edler was underpriced all season last year. He gets the most ice time of any Vancouver defensemen. He’s a shot blocking machine and also gets run on the top powerplay.

Vince Dunn- The Blues defensemen has moved to the third line. I don’t love this play, but if you’re looking for a cheap plug in play guy, it’s Dunn for me.

Nate Schmidt- The Vegas top line defensemen is fully in play tonight for me. Like I’ve stated before, the Knights have the second highest total, so this is a great way to get exposure to the top line and top powerplay.

Oscar Klefbom- Another way to get exposure to McDavid is through Klefbom. Oscar runs the top powerplay for the Oilers and is their clear top defensemen, on a game that I feel could be very fast paced.

Goalies

Frederik Anderson- The Leafs goalie is the clear top “Cash” game play of the night. The Leafs have the highest total, so he should be in line for the win against a dreadful Ottawa team. Just Lock him in!

Jordan Binnington- If you’re going to get a little weird in cash, Jordan Binnington is a good play in a tough matchup vs a Caps team with a low total.

GPP Goalie
Braden Holtby- The shot volume should be there for him. I don’t love this play, but maybe the Blues come out flat and he gets the W.

Mike Smith- Vancouver has one of the lowest totals on the slate and should be starting from reports after the morning skate. If I was starting my main GPP today, it would be with him in net.

Favorite Stacks

Toronto 1- JT, Kapanen and Marner Optional add on ( Morgan Rielly)
Vegas 2 – Glass, Pacioretty and Stone Optional add on (Theodore) Love the full stack!
Blues 1- Schenn, Schwartz and Tarasenko Optional add on (Pietrangelo)
Oilers PP- McDavid, Hopkins and Draisaitl Optional add on for cheap ( Nygard)
