Thoughts:

Updates to come to this section as we approach lock so continue to check back for more insight.

  • Today is a small 6 game slate with a ton of injury news that will decide the builds for both sites. To start, LeBron James and Danny Green have been ruled out, while Anthony Davis is ruled questionable. This is huge for the Lakers as this is a schedule loss, so Davis’ status will be huge for not only the Lakers but for us DFS players. In addition to the Lakers’ injury woes, the Pelicans have a plethora of injuries as well, with Jrue Holiday and JJ Redick Doubtful, Favors and Williams out. This opens up a ton, even in a tough road b2b matchup vs the Celtics. Let’s dive into roster construction.
  • If we are starting roster construction on both sites, I would start with Kyle Kuzma. Kuz will have the usage tonight even if AD plays. If AD is out, I wouldn’t even second guess it, Kuzma has to be locked with both AD and LeBron out. I guess in tournaments if AD plays Kuzma could be pivoted from, but Kuzma will be in my core today regardless of Davis’s status.
  • The second player I’ll be building around is Derrick Rose. Rose will likely come off the bench to start the game, but start the second half. With Griffin out, Rose has seen nearly a 32% usage rate. That usage rate is hard to ignore vs the Bulls… His price is steep but I’m willing to go there today, and the value should be there to fit him in. Another guy I love today is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. With Lakers without Bron, Danny Green, and potentially Avery Bradley, Shai should have an easier time scoring tonight. His price is low on both sites because of Gallinari’s return taking usage.
  • Another guy I like to pair with Kuz/Rose is Jerami Grant. Grant is expected to start for Millsap tonight. He isn’t a high usage guy but he will do a ton of little things to hit value. Love him tonight vs the Cavs.
  • I love Tobias/Horford to round out my core. They are still relatively cheap and Dallas is on the second end of a b2b. No Embiid still.
  • Time to talk about the Pelicans. They could be without Redick, Holiday, Williams and Favors tonight, leaving Lonzo, Ingram, Hayes, Hart shouldering the load. They could definitely be a good team stack, but are more GPP only for me due to b2b, on the road, and large spread.
  • Center is definitely the tough spot for me- on DK I’m going to run Hayes and Drummond. On FanDuel I’ll have to decide on one and run value/Drummond or Luka/Hayes.
  • Now, for tournaments, this is where I believe we can get a little more “different”. I would use the other plays listed below to differentiate yourself from the field.
  • Below are the players I would consider in your “pool” tonight when building 3-20 lineups.  This is 100% the approach everyone reading this article should be taking tonight.  There are plenty of 3-max, 5-max, 20-max contests to enter
  • The players I’m using in my “pool” tonight (outside of locking Kuzma, Rose, (one of Shai+Grant)
      • Andre Drummond
      • Brandon Ingram
      • Zach Lavine
      • Tobias Harris
      • Luka Doncic
      • Shai-Gilgeous Alexander
      • Josh Richardson
      • Jaxson Hayes
      • Al Horford
      • Lonzo Ball
      • Josh Hart
      • Bruce Brown Jr.
      • Jayson Tatum
      • Jamal Murray
      • Kemba Walker
      • Dennis Schroder
      • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
      • Alex Caruso
      • Javale McGee/Dwight Howard
    • We’re still waiting on a few pieces of information, so keep your eyes peeled.
    • Remember to try to add as much correlation to your lineups as possible.  More games go to OT than you think in the NBA and mini-game stacks are an underutilized strategy in NBA DFS tournaments.  (Again, you can use the table above to identify the game-stacks I’ll be on).
    • NO/BOS could be the nuts game stack tonight, if Pelicans can keep up. To start, I would run Zo, Hart, Ingram, and Hayes, and run it back with Walker, Brown and Tatum.
