Total Base Race – Chicago White Sox/Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers get an elite matchup against Reynaldo Lopez tonight. He has struggled through 15 starts, allowing a 5.71 xFIP and a 5.10 SIERA in those starts. He has also struggled with 49.4% fly ball and 15.4% HR/FB rates this season. Lopez has given up a 39% hard hit rate with an 18.9% soft hit rate in 2019. He has allowed left-handed batters to hit for a .299 average with a .519 slugging percentage and a .386 wOBA, while righties have posted a .281/.557/.367 line against him. Most importantly for this play, Lopez has given up a .314/.570/.401 line on the road this season. Shin-Soo Choo hasn’t necessarily been dominating recently, as he’s only hitting .229 with a .371 slugging percentage and a .784 OPS over his last 10 games. With that being said, owns a .291/.518/.904 line in Texas this season. Choo has also been at his best against right-handed pitching, as he enters this game with 0.106 wOBA and 0.14 ISO differentials against righties. Unlike Choo, Danny Santana has been playing at an elite level. Over his last 10 games, he’s hitting .412 with a .765 slugging percentage and a 1.197 OPS. He owns six extra-base hits (three home runs) in those games. He boasts 45% hard hit 32% fly ball rates with a 94 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Santana has also been a significantly more powerful option at home this season, where he owns a .652 slugging percentage through 28 games. He brings 0.103 wOBA and 0.094 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching into this game, as well. Elvis Andrus has been better against left-handed pitching, but it’s impossible to avoid him in this play. He has found plenty of success recently, recording a .317 average with a .561 slugging percentage and a .917 OPS over his last 10 games. He has posted seven extra-base hits (one home run) in those games, as well. He enters this game with 42% hard hit and 32% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Choo, Santana, and Andrus are hitting first through third in the Texas offense, and they will see extra-base at-bats tonight. I expect the Rangers to find plenty of success against Lopez, and it starts with this trio.
