Total Base Race – Los Angeles Angels/Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers get an elite matchup against Jose Suarez tonight. He enters this game with a 5.83 xFIP and a 5.26 SIERA through four MLB starts. He has also struggled with 54.8% fly ball and 17.6% HR/FB rates in 2019. Suarez has given up a 37.1% hard hit rate to his opponents, as well, while holding them to a 19.4% soft hit rate. He has struggled against everyone this season, specifically through 16.1 road innings. In those innings, he has allowed his opponents to hit for a .286 average with a .587 slugging percentage and a .385 wOBA. Elvis has looked outstanding recently, posting a .366 average with a .488 slugging percentage and a .869 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns two extra-base hits (one home run) in those games, as well. Andrus has also recorded a 42% hard hit rate with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He has been at his best against left-handed pitching, as he enters this game with 0.039 wOBA and 0.044 ISO differentials against lefties. Joey Gallo has also been playing at an elite level recently, boasting a .323 average with a .871 slugging percentage and a 1.303 OPS over his last 10 games. He has also recorded seven extra-base hits (five home runs) over that span. Since returning, Gallo owns 38% hard hit and 53% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity. Surprisingly, he has been better against left-handed pitching, as he owns 0.031 wOBA and 0.078 ISO differentials against lefties. Mike Trout is a player on the Los Angeles Angels side that is unavoidable. He hasn’t been playing overly well recently, as he’s only hitting .289 with a .316 slugging percentage and a .688 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns only one extra-base hit over that span. He has been getting unlucky, though, as he owns 46% hard hit and fly ball rates with a 96 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He gets a matchup against Mike Minor, who is a pitcher due for regression. Trout will also benefit from playing in Texas’ hitter friendly stadium tonight. A pair of Rangers along with Trout make a strong option for the over on this play.
