We’re going back to the well with this play tonight. The Boston Red Sox get an elite matchup against Glenn Sparkman, who brings a 5.60 xFIP and a 5.47 SIERA into this game. He has been at his worst against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .280 average with a .580 slugging percentage and a .380 wOBA. He has also given up a .299/.431/.323 line to left-handed batters this season. Furthermore, Sparkman has allowed his opponents to hit for a .344/.669/.436 line against him on the road in 2019. J.D. Martinez continue to play at a high level, as he is hitting for a .343 average with a .629 slugging percentage and a 1.106 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts four extra-base hits (three home runs) over that span, as well. He enters this game with 52% hard hit and 38% fly ball rates with a 96 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Martinez has been better against left-handed pitching, but he has found plenty of success against right-handed pitching, as well. Andrew Benintendi has been a more powerful option against right-handed pitching, though, posting a 0.019 ISO differential against righties. He has also been playing at an elite level recently, as he possesses a .372 average with a .698 slugging percentage and a 1.084 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns eight extra-base hits (three home runs) over that span, as well. Furthermore, he boasts 42% hard hit and 40% fly ball rates to go along with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Eduardo Rodriguez will be taking the mound for Boston. He has struggled at times this season, posting a 4.23 xFIP and a 4.38 SIERA through 23 starts. Surprisingly, he has been worse against left-handed batters, but he has allowed right-handed batters to post a .250/.396/.308 line against him in 2019. Jorge Soler has been playing at an extremely high level for the Kansas City Royals, posting a .371 average with a .800 slugging percentage and a 1.250 OPS over his last 10 games.
