Gleyber Torres has been playing well recently, as he owns a .313 average with a .688 slugging percentage and a 1.113 OPS over his last 10 games. He has also posted 40% hard hit and 53% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. With that being said, the opportunities may not be there for Torres tonight. He gets a plus matchup against Aaron Sanchez, who has struggled this season, but he’s expected to hit ninth in the New York Yankees lineup, which will limit his at-bats. This will also drastically lower his RBI potential, of which he has 12 over his last 10 games. Furthermore, even though New York owns a hitter friendly stadium, Torres’ numbers drop to a .268/.465/.772 line at home. He has found more power against left-handed pitching this season, as he brings a -0.075 ISO differential against righties into this game. With limited opportunities and declining numbers at home, Torres makes sense for the under on this slate.

J.D. Martinez hasn’t been playing overly well recently, posting a .234 average with a .511 slugging percentage and a .818 OPS over his last 10 games. He has been saved by his four home runs over that span. Martinez has posted 45% hard hit and 37% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, as well. This is solely a matchup play, though. Lucas Giolito has been one of the best pitchers in the MLB this season, and he will be toeing the mound for the Chicago White Sox tonight. He has held right-handed batters to an 11.4% HR/FB rate in 2019, while also holding his opponents to an 8.5% HR/FB rate on the road. Furthermore, Giolito has held right-handed batters to a .172 average with a .310 slugging percentage and a .253 wOBA on the road this season. Marrtinez has found more success against left-handed pitching, as he brings -0.087 wOBA and -0.137 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching into this game. Even though he’ll be hitting third in the Boston Red Sox lineup, Martinez makes a strong play for the under in this matchup.
