Bobby’s MLB Batter Up (3/29/19)

MLB BATTER UP March 29th, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Tigers – The Tigers are going to be a fantastic stack to get exposure today and one that I will be HEAVILY exposed to.  They are projecting much better against Shoemaker than the other way around on this game where people are heavily targeting the Blue Jays in cash games and GPPs.  Three players are popping off the page to me here as GPP plays in Miguel Cabrera (.2388 ISO vs. RHP), Chris Stewart (.226 ISO vs RHP – leads Tigers), and Nick Castellanos (.344 wOBA + > .200 ISO).  Shoemaker isn’t even expected to go more than 80-85 pitches tonight so should barely even make it halfway through this game.  The Blue Jays have a bullpen projected to come in the bottom third in the league in WAR this season and it should be on display as they get lit up by the Tigers in the later innings of tonight’s game.  I will have a ton of Tigers + 5-man stacks across my lineups tonight.
      • Best “One-Off” – Miguel Cabrera
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Nick Castellanos
  • Angels – I’m going back to the well today with the Angels after they burned me last night.  Obviously, the #1 piece you want from this game is possibly the best baseball player of all time in Mike Trout. Unlike the Pirates, where the run production is spread out from the 1-5 hitters, the Angels get a ton of run production from Trout skewing these numbers a bit as an extreme and outlier I’m going to overlook today (while obviously including Trout in my lineups).  They are facing Mike Fiers who is a pitcher who walks batters and doesn’t get strikeouts.  It’s unlikely he goes deep into this game and at that point I imagine the Angels to already have built a lead so unlikely we face any quality A’s relievers.  Kole Calhoun, Justin Bour, and Zack Cozart are the top options from this team to add to a stack with Trout.  I’m completely fading Albert Pujols here and I suggest you do too even if he is included in the top three batters.  This was last nights breakdown and today projects like a pretty similair situation if not more favorable against the A’s Marco Estrada.  Estrada was AWFUL last season with an xFIP over 5.7.  Obviously in GPP’s in MLB DFS we are going to be looking for home runs, well Estrada offers just that giving up 1.82 HR/9 last season.  While this number may ultimately come down a bit pitching in the A’s stadium which is a major pitcher’s park, we are still going to see an HR rate of around 1.4-1.6 per nine innings.  Mike Trout, Justin Bour, and Kole Calhoun again today.
      • Best “one-Off” – Mike Trout – LOCK
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Mike Trout – LOCK

Make sure to stay up to date with my core plays which can be utilized for cash games and single entry GPPs by DMing me on twitter and signing up for our core plays at www.dfskarma.com/shop.  I will always be in discord, as usual, answering questions and giving additional insight to our subscribers and community on the day’s slate.
