Bobby’s MLB Batter Up (3/30/19)

MLB BATTER UP March 30th, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Rangers – Let me make this clear.  I think the Cubs are the #1 stack on this slate regardless of how popular they are and I will have a ton of Cubs mixed into my lineups with stacks or one-offs today and I suggest you do the same.  However, I do think that the Rangers make an intriguing game stack here as the #1 contrarian option on the slate against Yu Darvish. Especially this early in the season, people are scared to target “aces” and this may be one of the best leverage spots we’ve seen so far this season unless you identified some of the opening day blowups.  DFS Karma proprietary projections have Yu Darvish 4th in home runs given up by starters.  He ranks second on the slate in earned runs given up.  There are five players who grade extremely well in this matchup on the Rangers and they will be the 100% in my 5-man stacks.  They include (in order), Shin-Soo Choo (.386 wOBA), Joey Gallo (.277 ISO), Nomar Mazara (.336 wOBA), Rougned Odor (.330 wOBA), and Asdrubal Cabrera.  Utilize these players in your lineups tonight.  I imagine the sharp MLB players will be on them but they will be going under-owned because they are facing an “ace”.
      • Best “One-Off” – Shin-Soo Choo
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Joey Gallo
  • Angels – So the Angels did a bit better last night for us than the previous night putting up six runs with some major production from the top of the order which we loved to see.  Unfortunately, the Tigers let us down in a great spot so I ended up with my first losing night of the season.  We’re getting back in the winning column tonight with the Rangers, Cubs, and Angels.  Mike Trout grades out extremely well today and I still believe at 5.5k he’s severely underpriced.  He is one of the best bets for a big game on the slate and it’s very likely he produces again tonight.  He’s a PRIORITY play in the majority of my builds, even mixing in Cubs and Rangers.  It’s going to be tough to get all the bats we want tonight as I’ll likely be locking in Eduardo Rodriquez and punting the SP2 with someone like Felix Pena (barf).  I think this is the optimal GPP approach tonight as we’ll see some fireworks from the bats and none of the pitchers pop off the chart outside of E-Rod.
      • Best “one-Off” – Mike Trout – LOCK
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Mike Trout – LOCK

Make sure to stay up to date with my core plays which can be utilized for cash games and single entry GPPs by DMing me on twitter and signing up for our core plays at www.dfskarma.com/shop.  I will always be in discord, as usual, answering questions and giving additional insight to our subscribers and community on the day’s slate.

Bobby’s LOW-OWNED BOMB’S PER POSITION (Proj. ISO)
C: Y. Molina (.155-.160 )
1B:  W. Myers (.200-.205 )
2B: M. Moustakas (.220 ) – He’s one of my favorite one-offs on the slate.  I think he’s a fantastic play but I really am not judging his ownership too well.  Probably 15-20% range.
SS: P. DeJong (.200 ) – Way too cheap
3B: M. Machado (.232 )
OF1: J. Gallo (.240 )
OF2: H Renfroe (.240 )
OF3: K. Davis (.235)
Highest Ceiling Player Per Position (Price/Ownership Not Considered)
