Monkey Knife Fight Home Run Derby:

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

After a long series with the Washington Nationals, the Los Angeles Dodgers will travel to Colorado to square off against Jon Gray and the Rockies in Coors Field. The Dodgers have one of the most powerful offenses in the league, so this is not a jab at Gray, but rather, a calculated target on a short, seven-game MLB slate. It helps that Vegas has this game set at 13 total runs, as well. Start with the leadoff batter, Joc Pederson. Pederson enters tonight’s game with incredible 0.206 ISO and 0.120 wOBA differentials against right-handed pitching. He is averaging 0.078 HR/AB, and over the last 15 days, he has an average exit velocity on batted balls of 95 MPH. Combine that with his fly ball rate over 40%, and his hard hit rate over 50%, and Pederson is a lock. Next, move down in the batting order to Cody Bellinger. Belling is hitting 0.076 HR/AB, and he enters tonight’s game with positive 0.111 ISO and 0.086 wOBA differentials. In the last 15 days, Bellinger has an average exit velocity on batted balls of 94 MPH, a fly ball rate just under 50%, and a hard hit rate over 35%. He has been struggling at the plate over his last 10 games, hitting under .200 with only 1 home run, but a kickstart in Coors Field is exactly what he needs. Finally, fill out the lineup with Max Muncy. Muncy is another left-handed Dodger, and he is hitting 0.076 HR/AB, just like Bellinger. His advanced metrics are worse than both Bellinger and Pederson, but he still worth consideration in Coors Field. As a left-handed batter, he enters tonight’s game with positive 0.068 ISO and 0.070 wOBA differentials. In his last 10 games, despite his less-than-ideal advanced metics, he has 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. On a slate without much upside, attacking the Dodgers and Rockies game is like stealing candy from a baby over at Monkey Knife Fight.

Recommended Batters: Joc Pederson, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy

Home Run Prop Bet:

Joc Pederson (+215) – Los Angeles Dodgers – OF

Joc Pederson against a right-handed pitcher in Coors Field is just too much power to pass on. He is hitting leadoff, so he should have plenty of at-bats, as well. Do not overthink it tonight.
