MLB DFS 5/21/23 – Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel

Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Top Pitchers

Framber Valdez

Wehave an interesting pitching slate today as there are not a lot of true “aces” on the mound. I will most likely be fading Scherzer until he proves he is healthy. Valdez has been showing us that he is more than fine taking over the ace role for Houston. Valdez also gets a fantastic matchup against Oakland. The Athletics have been mediocre at best all year on both sides of the ball. All but 3 batters have strikeout rates north of 20% and there aren’t a lot of power hitters either. I wouldn’t be the least bit surpriseed to see him strikeout 10+ batters here and grab a win on top of that. Framber will be no secret but he is a must for me in cash games and an elite option in tournaments.

Secondary Arms

Like I said above, there aren’t a lot of “aces” here today. There are a couple options for turnaments and for your second SP on DK. I am a big fan of Texas today in all aspects so Andrew Heaney is in play for me today. Andrew is a guy who can strikeout 10 or strikeout 2 and you’re rolling the dice with him but that’s how you bink tournaments! Another guy I am interested in is Merrill Kelly. His fellow ace Gallen, struggled heavily with this Pirates team a couple days ago but I think Kelly has the stuff to get the job done. The last guy I am contemplating is Tanner Bibee. Lets face it, The Mets have been inconsistent and very lack luster this year. Bibee has had a few very solid outings with one bad one mixed in. We saw his leash get longer against the Angels in his previous outing and I firmly believe he can go 6-7 innings again today and pick up a win.

Building Blocks

Corey Seager

I wrote up Garcia yesterday and Seager ended up going yard but Texas was clearly the stack to use. Today I am loving Seager (which means Adolis should go yard). One pitch that the majority of the Rangers hit very well is the fastball. Seager in fact has an xwOBA of .496 off fastball like pitches and it just happens to be Connor Seabold’s number 1 option for pitching (56% of the time). Texas should have a field day with him and in particular, Corey Seager. I will most likely be stacking them again and making Seager a priority in a stack or as a one off.

My favorite GPP stack for today is going to be The Rangers against Seabold. Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Dodgers and The White Sox’s!

Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day

In 2004, Barry Bonds had 373 at bats and reached base safely 376 times!
