MLB DFS 5/28/22 – Spike’s Building Blocks | DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

Great weather for baseball! Welcome to our MLB DFS Building Blocks, DraftKings and FanDuel picks for 5/28/22! In this article, I’ll break down by top overall plays for today’s main slate. We have already found a lot of success to start the year off and there is plenty more to come! A big KARMA takedown is imminent and only a matter of time. I will be providing Core Plays for every main slate (and day baseball) this season — you can gain access to that as well as our premium discord here. You can also try out the Core Plays package with a $5 day pass. Let’s get to the plays…

Pitcher

Joe Musgrove

He really doesn’t need much introduction as he has been pitching solid so far this year. He gets a matchup agianst the Pirates tonight who have been pretty awful all around. More than half of their projected roster owns a strikeout rate of over 20%. As for Musgrove himself, he owns a 25.1% strikeout rate for the season. Only walking 4% of batters and giving up hard hits a mere 36% of the time. He is a no brainer and my clear SP1 for this DK slate. FanDuel has chosen to have their slate start at 4pm. Because of this, San Diego’s game isn’t on the slate for them. I do really like Gerritt Cole for FanDuel’s main slate.

Johnny Cueto

We have a small sample size with him so far this year. That being said, I really like what we have seen from him to start off his year. Here is another team that strikes out a ton. Again, small sample size but Cueto owns a 26.1% strikeout rate and a hard hit rate under 40%. I really like how he has a ton of pitches he throws, six to be exact. That keeps batters guessing and should help him out here. The Cubs only have 2 batters with a barrel rate over 10% and don’t scare me at all. Johnny also allows you to spend up on bats as he isn’t expensive.

BONUS: As I said earlier, FD and DK have made main slates at different times. So Johnny Cueto is a FD main option and Musgrove is a main DK option.

Building Blocks

Manny Machado

The Padres are in a great spot once again and Machado in particular I really like. I don’t mind the righty on righty as Brubaker is not good at all. I have won a ton of money stacking against him this season already. Manny has a hard hit rate over 50% and is being walked over 12% of the time.  Brubaker’s numbers don’t look bad on paper but he  tends to go off the deep end when teams get to him early. I expect Manny and the Padres to do just that. I’m not sure about ownership since it is a small slate but I think the Dodgers will tke the cake with that making him a solid option across cash and tournaments.

Freddie Freeman

Another guy who has been on fire recently and in Arizona he has really been hitting well. Merrill Kelly isn’t someone I usually pick on but Freeman is just too good. Kelly is worse against lefties and Freddie carries a ton of power when he swings the bat. He only strikes out a mere 11% of the time and has a barrel % over 11. He doesn’t need much introduction and will be a popular option tonight and an elite play across the board.

Bold Call

Machado hits for the cycle!
