MLB DFS 7/2/23 – Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel

Happy July!! Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Top Pitchers

Spencer Strider

Strider is arguably the best pitcher in the league, of course I am going to write him up! This man is producing big numbers and you can’t ignore them. 3% strikeout rate along with an xBA of .206 and an xwOBA of .287 not to mention hard contact at 38%. Miami usually doesn’t strikeout a ton but given its Strider on the mound, it doesn’t really matter. The top of the Marlins lineup is a little concerning as they have been hitting well but they also strikeout at an alarming rate (verses the team as a whole). Braves are favored to win and we all know Spencer comes with 10+ strikeout upside. This is a must play in cahs games and a great GPP play as well.

Kevin Gausman

Lets just say the Eury Perez play didn’t go as planned. Today is a new day and I am looking no further than Gausman for my SP2! Gausman actually pitched horribly against them earlier this year but I have zero issues going right back to him. Kevin is sporting a 33% strikeout rate and only walking batters 6% of the time.  Gausman also has a nasty splitter that finishes batters off. For Boston, you really  have maybe 3 or 4 guys you have to worry about at the top of the lineup but the bottom of it should produce several strikeouts for Gausman. I do expect him to be in the 20-25% range for ownership so keep that in mind when buliding tournament line-ups.

Building Blocks

Matt Olson

This guy has been on fire for Atlanta recently. In a 8 game stretch, Olson has had 14 hits, 12 runs, 7 homeruns and 16 RBI’s. It is very hard to ignore his recent streak even though historically he hasn’t done well against Alcantara. Sandy has taken a big step back this year and just isn’t the same pitcher right now. Let’s also put into place that it should be around 92 degrees out which is great hitting weather. Olson is hiting clean-up which is usually where you want one of your hotter hitters to be. Olson is projecting for lower ownership even though he is in good spot. Olson also has 20 of his 28 homeruns off the 4 pitches that Sandy throws (4 seamer, slider, sinker and changeup). This is just too good of a spot to not capitalize on!

My favorite stack for today is going to be The Dodgers’s against Singer! Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Rangerss and The Bravess!

Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day

Shohei Ohtani is a -1450 favorite to win AL MVP! That is insane at this stage of the season!
