MLB DFS 7/27/22 – Ben’s Building Blocks | DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

Welcome to our MLB DFS Building Blocks, DraftKings and FanDuel picks for 7/27/22! In this article, I’ll break down by top overall plays for today’s main slate. Last year was an extremely big year for the Karma team in MLB, and we are looking to continue that success in 2022. I will be providing Core Plays for every main slate (and day baseball) this season — you can gain access to that as well as our premium discord here. Let’s get to the plays…

Above is an example of the Core Plays given out to Subscribers on Friday May 13th

Pitcher

Building Blocks

This is a top-heavy pitching slate with some big names taking the mound like Max Scherzer and Kevin Gausman. Scherzer has a tough on-paper match-up with the New York Yankees, but he is my clear top option. He has shredded this Yankees lineup in his career, allowing a .277 expected wOBA against their current roster. This is also a birthday narrative, with Max turning 38 years old. Scherzer has been a dominant birthday pitcher in his career, furthering my confidence in him on Wednesday. Gausman gets a nice boost facing a watered down Cardinals lineup missing Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals lineup tonight owns a sub-.290 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Basically, these two stick out well above the field for me tonight and I want to be able to lock in both of them. If you’re searching for value, I would probably side with Luis Castillo who is the clear third-option in both projection and projected ownership.

Johnny India

Since I’m probably going to be spending up on two pitchers tonight. I’m looking for value in this section starting with India. Cincy matches up with Braxton Garrett, who has been a solid pitcher for the Marlins this season. That being said, he struggles much more with right-handed batters than lefties. He’s allowing a .330 wOBA in the split, compared to a .210 mark against left-handed hitters. India has been strong at the plate recently, and owns a really solid 28% line-drive rate against lefties. He also hits fastballs very well, which is Garrett’s most-used pitch. I like his price point, and he can be used in all formats as a one-off.

Jarren Duran

Duran also fits the mold of a strong value against Cal Quantrill. Quantrill has struggled with strikeouts this season, making it easy to attack him since we know balls are going to be put into play. Duran has bounced between the minors and big leagues, but has some great underlying numbers against righties. His .185 ISO isn’t great, but it’s the highest mark in the Red Sox projected lineup. His 43.5% hard-hit rate paces the projected starters as well. He also owns a .294 ISO against sinkers, which Quantrill throws almost 40% of the time against lefties. I think Boston will be a popular target tonight and he can be used on both sites.

Bold Call

Max Scherzer strikes out 10 Yankees!
