MLB DFS 8/12/23 – Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings and FanDuel

Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. This Portal also gives all of your cash and gpp plays as well as our players to fade! We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Top Pitchers

Spencer Strider

Any time Strider is on the slate he is always a viable option. Sporting a 39% strikeout rate along with an xBA of just .204, it’s easy to see why he has dominated this year. Hard contact only 36% of the time with a 7.5% walk rate as well. I know he put up his worst performance of the year agaist The Mets 2 months ago but today is a new day and I am always excited to see him put on a show. A big chunk of these Mets have a whiff rate north of 20% and some go into the 50% range. We are also talking about a guy who has 12+ strikeout upside. Do yourself a favor and plug him in and move on.

Brandon Woodruff

I was really contemplating writing up Gallen but here we are! The matchup is just better all around. The White Sox have not been making a ton of hard contact and have 7 of their 9 starters who strikeout 20% or more. Woodruff looked solid in his first game back and I expect him to continue pushing that momentum against Chicago. I don’t think ownership is going to be crazy high and there is some slight risk here but overall looks like a fantastic play.

Building Blocks

Bobby Witt Jr

Witt is in a fantastic spot tonight and I don’t think hes going to be heavily rostered. His salary is nearly 6k which should scare a good amount of folk off. More or less he has been on a tear for the past 15 games but thats not even the best part. He also has been stealing more bases with 6 in that 15 game span. Base stealing upside along with a powerful hitter is usally a very good thing in the DFS world ad I will prove that tonight! Matz throws a ton of 4 seamer’s and his #2 pitch is a changeup. Witt has been crushing changeups all year and is still very lethal with 4 seamers.

My favorite stack for today is going to be The Braves against Quintana! Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Angels and The Dodgers!

Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day

The Cubs played all their home games during the day untl 1988 when they installed lights in Wrigley Field (last MLB team to put up lights as well).
