MLB DFS 8/8/19 – Ben’s Breakdown

What’s up everyone! 11 preseason football games has consumed a lot of my time today, so I will simply have an article highlighting my favorite overall targets for MLB tonight, Building Blocks + Final Thoughts return tomorrow!

Pitchers

Matt Boyd- Boyd continues a breakout season for the Tigers, and he is my favorite overall option on a slate that’s loaded with aces tonight. There are definitely some strikeouts to be had in the middle of this Royals lineup, but overall they don’t project as a high-strikeout opponent. That also doesn’t mean that they are a good team, however, their projected lineup boasts an egregious .308 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. They don’t have much power to the left-side either, and I think with Boyd’s price on most sites tonight, he will be my focus in both cash games and GPPs.

Dallas Keuchel- We have two options in the mid-tier tonight, starting with Dallas Keuchel against the Miami Marlins. Keuchel is not someone I typically play in DFS given the lack of strikeouts, but we want to get in bats tonight so dropping down to this mid-tier would make sense. Even with the lack of K’s, this Marlins team projects for a .315 wOBA against lefties and they are simply one of the worst offenses in the entire MLB.

Jon Gray- This is a natural fit, as Gray matches up with the Padres outside of Coors Field. It feels like Gray has strictly started in Coors Field for the last two months, but tonight he gets the gift of a high-strikeout Padres lineup and a depressed price tag. Even with his recent struggles, he’s striking out over 25% of right-handed batters this season and I think he is playable in all formats given the upside in this matchup.

Eric Lauer- This would be my GPP SP2 value option, not because I think that Lauer is good, but because the Rockies are that bad on the road. At his price, he would potentially enable you to spend up on an SP and an expensive stack — but he safety is too much of a concern for cash game builds.

Stacks

Red Sox/Yankees- Both of these teams will dominate the attention and ownership tonight, being two of the best offenses in the MLB in good matchups. If picking one, I would have to side with Boston given that they are a healthier team right now, and on an 8 game slate I could see siding with a full stack in cash games. Aaron Judge remains a core play in all formats for the Yankees, but the rest of the righties are better suited for GPP counterparts with him.

Braves- The Braves are in a really interesting spot against Elieser Hernandez, who has been extremely splits-dependent this season. He struggles mightily with lefties, bringing Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies to the top of my board, but the good strikeouts vs righties still comes with over 45% fly balls so including the likes of Ronald Acuna and Josh Donaldson would be the move in tournaments.

Tigers- Lopez will not be on a full leash tonight, so if the Tigers can pressure him early and get into the bullpen this could be wheels up on a low-owned stack with legitimate tournament winning upside given the state of the Royals bullpen.

Cash Game Core: Eugenio Suarez, Aaron Judge, JD Martinez, Miguel Cabrera
