MLB DFS 9/1/20 – Ben’s Building Blocks

Pitcher

Framber Valdez- Pitcher is extremely straightforward tonight with Framber Valdez dominating ownership at $8,100 on DraftKings. This is 100% a mis-price given how he has thrown this season, boasting a 2.92 xFIP with 26% strikeouts and over 60% ground balls. The Rangers are one of the worst teams in the MLB against left-handed pitching ranking 26th in team wRC+ while striking out a quarter of the time. He is the clear SP1 for me on this slate while I’m looking to pair him with a cheap Josh Lindblom against the strikeout-prone Detroit Tigers.

Building Blocks

Franmil Reyes- The Indians get our favorite matchup tonight against none other than Matt Harvey. Typically we want lefties against Harvey, but with the way Reyes is seeing the ball right now I find it tough to fade him. Harvey’s saving grace vs right-handed batters is 54% ground balls, and we know that Reyes has the fly-balls and power to beat him. He also throws primarily fastball/slider to same-handed batters — two pitches Reyes owns an ISO% north of .220 against.

Jason Heyward- Heyward wins the free square of the night award, priced at only $2,300 on DraftKings. Yes, he’s coming off a two homerun game, and yes he has been really good against right-handed pitching this season. He sports a team-high .463 wOBA in the split this season. Kuhl has long struggled with left-handed batters, and those struggles have returned this season. He’s allowing a .239 ISO and over 50% hard-contact to opposite hand batters in 2020.

Jeff McNeil- McNeil is back up to fifth in the Mets order today against Asher Wojciechowski. Normally, the team opposite Woj is the absolute chalk stack in cash games, but with the Indians seeing Matt Harvey and Coors Field there is a slight chance it goes a bit overlooked. McNeil is one of the Mets better hitters vs righties with a .368 wOBA and 23% line drives since the start of 2019.
