MLB Jock MKT Plays (4/13/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/13/22 Top Buy

Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers

Potential Bid: $7.00

Break-Even Point: 22nd

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Freeman recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $7.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 22nd in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Freeman at $7.00 and he finishes 22nd in this field, I make my $7.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $18.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $6.00). It’s that simple.

Freeman is number one in Jock MKT’s pre-ranking today, which means you are going to have to spend to get him. That being said, our projections love him and the Dodgers today against Chris Paddack. Paddack still has a ton of potential, but he’s never been able to consistently get left-handed batters out and his strikeout rate in the split sits at a scary 18%. It’s going to be tough for him to navigate this Dodgers lineup if he can’t get any swings and misses, and Freeman looks primed for a big game. He has the highest wOBA on this team vs righties over the last two seasons (.398) and that comes with the highest line drive rate as well (24%). He’s just a good hitter, but he doesn’t sacrifice any power for his strong contact skills. Paddack also throws mainly fast ball / change up — two pitches that Freeman has crushed in his career. He’s hitting the ball hard to begin the season (53% hard hit%) as an added bonus. Overall, I love this spot for the Dodgers want to be overweight to Freeman and his teammates.

Secondary Buy

Ian Happ, Chicago Cubs

Potential Bid: $4.50

Break-Even Point: 38th

Happ is my top value buy on the board for Wednesday, with he and his Cubs teammates in a great spot for Zach Thompson. Thompson has potential this season for Pittsburgh, but he’s never quite been able to figure out left-handed batters at the major league level. Over his last 100 plate appearances, he’s allowing a .338 wOBA and 40% hard hits to batters from the left side. Happ is really good against righties, and with his major flaw being strikeouts — it works out that Thompson strikes out under 20% of left-handed batters. Happ was one of the best hitters in baseball over the second-half of last season putting up a near .400 wOBA post All-Star break. That’s carried over to 2022, he sports a .500 xwOBA already this season. Happ is someone I’m willing to be overweight on at this price, and you can attempt to pair him with other Cubs as well given the state of the Pirates bullpen.
