MLB Jock MKT Plays (4/8/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/8/22 Top Buy

Marcell Ozuna, Atlanta Braves

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Ozuna recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Ozuna at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

Ozuna is far and away my favorite play tonight against a suspect left-hander in Reiver Sanmartin. Ozuna has been one of our top targets vs left-handed pitching for years now, and actually ranks first on this team in ISO vs LHP since the start of 2020 (.337). His 92.4 average exit velocity is tops on the team as well, and it’s clear he can hit for major power against opposite-handed pitchers. We have a pretty limited sample on Sanmartin in the big leagues, but his second-most used pitch is his sinker and that’s a pitch Ozuna has success against as well. Over the last few seasons, he owns a .217 ISO and 96 exit velocity against the pitch. I think the Braves players are stackable here, but Ozuna grades out as my top overall play and a must-buy for me in this price range.

Secondary Buy

Kole Calhoun, Texas Rangers

Potential Bid: $5.00

Break-Even Point: 34th

Calhoun and some of his Rangers teammates present tremendous value in the market tonight. I doubt most people will be looking at them with some bigger name teams on the slate, but Jose Berrios really struggled with left-handed batters last season. Dating back to the start of the 2020 shortened season, Berrios allows a .223 ISO and 43% hard-hits to lefties. This sets up well for Calhoun, who has some of the best numbers vs right-handed pitching in this lineup over that span. I love his 24% line drive rate, and it comes with a huge 46% hard-contact rate as well. One of Berrios’ most used pitches is his sinker, a pitch that Calhoun crushes. Over the last few seasons, he has the highest ISO on the Rangers vs the pitch (.388). Loading up on left-handed Rangers bats could be a solid value play on Friday.
