MLB Jock MKT Plays (5/13/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

5/13/22 Top Buy

Austin Meadows, Detroit Tigers

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Meadows recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Meadows at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

We have a massive slate of games available tonight, with tons of good pitching that leaves a little to be desired when it comes to the offenses. I like this spot for the Detroit Tigers, up against Jordan Lyles. Lyles has been one of the worst pitchers on this slate over the last few seasons with a 4.63 SIERA and sub-20% strikeout rate. He is especially bad against lefties, allowing a .349 wOBA and .231 ISO. Meadows has clearly been the best hitter in this lineup over that span vs right-handed pitching — owning a .267 ISO and 42% hard-hit rate. Those numbers also come with a 17% strikeout rate, the lowest mark on the Tigers. Lyles pumps a lot of fastballs to both sides of the plate, which is good news for Meadows. He’s been the best fastball hitter on this team with a .432 expected wOBA. Overall, the Tigers left-handed batters are who we want to attack and Meadows has big-time upside in this match-up.

Secondary Buy

Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros

Potential Bid: $5.67

Break-Even Point: 30th

If you read my articles often, you know that Tucker is someone I’ve been targeting heavily in recent weeks. He’s finally started to catch fire this week, and we expect that trend to continue. He’s had some very positive batted ball data this season, including a 45% hard-hit rate. Houston has one of the higher team-totals on the board, and they’re in a great spot vs Josiah Gray. He’s really struggled with left-handed batters, and is unable to consistently get outs. Tucker is one of the best hitters on this team vs righties and he matches up well with his pitch mix. Gray throws mainly fastball/curve to lefties which are two of Tucker’s best pitches to hit. Houston is arguably in the best offensive spot tonight and securing shares of one of their best hitters is at the top of my list.
