MLB Jock MKT Plays (5/9/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

5/9/22 Top Buy

Jazz Chisholm, Miami Marlins

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Jazz recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Jazz at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

Vegas loves this game, with it featuring the highest O/U on the slate now set at nine runs. It’s a strong offensive spot for the Miami Marlins, who match up with Humberto Castellanos and a terrible Diamondbacks bullpen. Jazz Chisholm is the best hitter in the Marlins lineup, and I love using him based off how hard he continually hits the baseball. He was among the league leaders in barrels last season when healthy — and that’s carried over to 2022 — he currently ranks 14th in baseball in barrel rate. His only Achilles heel is his strikeout rate, which shouldn’t come into play vs Castellanos who has little strikeout ability to speak of. Since the start of last season, he has struck out just 15% of batters faced backed by a scary 6% swinging strike rate. Not being able to get swings and misses means balls will be put into play — and in Chisholm’s case, hard hit ones. He’s the bets hitter in this lineup vs right-handed pitching and is my favorite buy tonight.

Secondary Buy

Pavin Smith, Arizona Diamondbacks

Potential Bid: $4.50

Break-Even Point: 38th

While Smith doesn’t have the best numbers on this team vs right-handed pitching this season, there is reason to believe his numbers will soon improve. He’s been hitting the ball hard all season long, and currently ranks top-11 in all for baseball in barrel rate. He matches up with Elieser Hernandez tonight who is exceptionally bad vs left-handed batters. Outside of being terrible vs lefties, Hernandez throws mainly fastballs which is good news for Smith. Smith ranks second on the Diamondbacks with a .416 xwOBA vs fastballs along with a 46% hard-hit rate. This is one of the better match-ups on the slate, and Vegas agrees with their team total rising almost half a run since open. I expect offense in this game given the quality of these match-ups and will be looking to secure shares of multiple left-handed Arizona batters on Monday.
