Slate Thoughts:

  • The Red River Rivalry is the game that will gain the most attention this weekend.  We will see an under-preforming Oklahoma team take on a Texas team that has yet to locate its defense.  This game currently has a total sitting at 73, and I still think that is to low.  Neither team has figured out how to play defense this year.  Both of these squads have exceptional offenses, and have displayed that through their first few games this year.  The two quarterbacks in this game, Ehlinger and Rattler, are in phenomenal spots to put up big numbers, but they come with heavy price tags.  I think in cash games, you want to target at least one of these guys, but in tournaments I can see a game stack working quite well here.  If I had to chose one quarterback to play, I would chose Ehlinger.  Ehlinger so far this year, has looked like the more well rounded quarterback, and he has a better group of weapons around him.  Pairing J. Smith with Ehlinger in cash games would be the way I go.
  • One of the first things I noticed when looking through this slate, was the extremely low price of UVA’s B. Armstrong.  Armstrong has had a great start to UVA’s season and really has shown the potential to not only gut defenses with his arms, but also with his legs.  Just last week vs. a very stout Clemson defense, Armstrong rushed 22 times for 89 yards.  I expect he will find a little more room this weekend, going up against a poor NC State rush defense.  NC State has allowed over 200 yards per game on the ground this year.  This is a great spot for Armstrong and UVA’s offense.  Armstrong is a great play in all formats.
  • Billy Kemp IV is Armstrong’s top receiver this year, and he has shown that he is going to look his way early and often.  Through two games Kemp IV is averaging 8.5 receptions per game.  On DK where you get a full point per reception, he makes for a phenomenal play at his price.  I would definitely consider stacking Kemp with Armstrong in cash or tournaments.
  • The number one RB on this slate has to be Breece Hall.  Hall had an absolute smash performance last week vs. Oklahoma.  This week he will be facing a Texas Tech squad that is almost as bad as Oklahoma at stopping the run.  Hall comes with a great floor and one of the highest ceilings of any player on this slate.  Hall is involved in the passing game as well, which contributes to his extremely high ceiling.  I think he should be the first RB you click on when making your lineups this weekend.
  • UNC this year has been a huge disappointment in terms of fantasy production.  Coming into this year, UNC was touted as one of the most prolific offenses in the nation, and  rightfully so.  They returned Sam Howell, who had a phenomenal freshman season.  They also returned his top two receivers in Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome.  So far this year, compared to last, this offense has looked off.  I have stacked this team twice this year and they have burned me both times.  I definitely plan to go back to them this week, as they are all severely underpriced, compared to the ceiling they each have.  UNC will come in lower owned then they should and now is a great time to get on them at lower ownership, before they have an explosion game and score 50 points and their prices jump by 2k.  Howell, Brown and Newsome is my favorite GPP stack of the weekend and this stack will be in my main gpp lineup.
