PGA Top DFS Plays: THE PLAYERS Championship

Finally, a big event with a full field for my Top DFS Plays!

The Arnold Palmer Invitational did not disappoint with the carnage last weekend, and Scottie Scheffler avoided it to win the API. And along the way, he found a putter, making him the big favorite to win THE PLAYERS Championship this week.

TPC Sawgrass (par 72, 7,275 yards) features plenty of water, including the famed par-3, No. 17 island hole.

Scheffler is the defending champion.

Onto PGA Tour Top DFS Plays for THE PLAYERS Championship:

10K & Above

Scottie Scheffler ($12,800)

Scheffler enters THE PLAYERS as the most expensive golfer on DraftKings, and he’s expected to have the highest rostered number as well.

And, I’m still going to play him, A LOT!

He’s Top 10 on the PGA Tour in SG: off the tee, SG: approach and SG: around the green. Plus, he’s the best scorer in par 5s.

These are the biggest stat indicators for success at Sawgrass.

9K & Above

Sam Burns ($9,200)

We can forget Burns’ final round at the API because it was forgettable (five bogeys and two triple bogeys).

But he still has the skillset to be successful at Sawgrass.

He’s Top 20 in three key stat categories this week on my spreadsheet: SG: off the tee, SG: putting and par-5 scoring.

I’ll take his game from the first three rounds at API over one stinker.

8K & Above

Tony Finau ($8,500)

Finau has been awful with the short stick this season as he is 166th on Tour in SG: putting.

Hopefully, he found something during his two-week break.

But he continues to solid off the tee and is 3rd in SG: approach. He’s also tied with Scheffler in par-5 scoring (4.33).

Finau has squeezed two Top 25 finishes between 2 cuts in his last four times playing at Sawgrass.

7K and Above

Keith Mitchell ($7,500)

TPC Sawgrass is perfectly suited for Mitchell’s strong play off the tee.

Mitchell is 32nd in distance off the tee and 45th in accuracy – long and straight can tame Pete Dye’s monster of a course.

Plus, Mitchell is 4th SG: off the tee, 10th in par-5 scoring and 23rd SG: approach.

He should have a big week for my Top DFS Plays.

Punt Plays

Andrew Novak ($6,400) squeezed into my Top 10 with his strong recent play (three straight Top-10 finishes), while the top play from my spreadsheet is from the 6K range (check out my Core Plays). Billy Horschel ($6,600) leads the rest of a group of six other 6K and under golfers to rank in the bottom half of my Top 25.
