Bobby’s MLB Batter Up (3/31/19)

MLB BATTER UP March 31st, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Red Sox Once again, let me make it clear.  The Chicago Cubs are far and away the best team to attack on this slate but that is much too boring just to list off the top option that a squirrel could identify.  These teams will be focused around the afternoon games for those of you that missed the main slate. The Red Sox are looking extremely undervalued today by some Vegas odds which is going to lead them to go under-owned in MLB DFS.  Through DFS Karma projection models it is clear that three specific players are grading out as doing all of the damage through this lineup so you can soak up basically all of the offense and upside through rostering these three players.  Mookie Betts (.366 wOBA), JD Martinez (.372 wOBA), and Xander Bogaerts (.330 wOBA) are the only players I’d consider from the Red Sox but they are ELITE plays. –
      • Best “One-Off” – JD Martinez
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – JD Martinez
  • Dodgers The Dodgers have been hot to start the season so we probably won’t get them that low-owned tonight but with everyone on the Cubs, it will be a sharp pivot to leverage ownership.  The Cubs are a team that statistically get a ton of their run production through one, two, and sometimes three different players making a five-man stack of this team, which you’ll see a lot of today, sub-optimal in GPPs and generally a bad strategy.  The Dodgers, however, have their run production between the 1-5 hitters basically equivalent according to data pulled from EV Analytics. This is going to lead to me being heavily exposed to all 1-5 hitters in the Dodgers lineup today purely from a game theory perspective (obviously, in addition, they have the third highest implied run total on the slate behind the Cubs and the Red Sox).  If you’re worried about not having Cubs exposure, I do think the right move is to get 1 and maybe 2 of them into your lineup if you can.  But soak up 3-5 Dodgers with those three Red Sox players and you will be golden on this slate.
      • Best “one-Off” – Max Muncy
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Joc Pederson

Make sure to stay up to date with my core plays which can be utilized for cash games and single entry GPPs by DMing me on twitter and signing up for our core plays at www.dfskarma.com/shop.  I will always be in discord, as usual, answering questions and giving additional insight to our subscribers and community on the day’s slate.
