MLB DFS 4/30/23 – Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel

Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Top Pitchers

Sonny Gray

PThis slate should turn into a much smaller one as four games are projected ot get rained out making it a five game slate. It also makes pitching change drastically. Gray is now looking like on of the top options for this slate. Sonny has enjoyed a very hot start to the year with 5 starts in the books for him and only 2 eanred runs allowed in that time span. Also in that span he is aveaging 7 strikeouts a game along with a whiff rate if 31.2%. Outside of some hard contact hits he has been a stud pretty much. Gray gets a matchup against the rebuilding Royals in Minneapolis. Kansas City ranks in the bottom 9 percentile for strikeouts averaging 9.18 per game. This should be a fun one to watch as Sonny should dominate this team and he is a very viable option across all contests today!

Nestor Cortes

Again, I want to reiterate that with a smaller pitching pool we have to make sacrafices. Crotes hasn’t been bad by any means this year but he hasn’t looked as elite as he did a year ago (still above average numbers though). That being said, he owns great numbers against this Rangers lineup. Sporting a 37% strikeout rate along with an xwOBA of .296, you can see what there is to like. Cortes isn’t giving up a lot of hard contact (34%) and is also only walking guys 4% of the time. Cortes akes for a fine GPP play and SP2 for todays slate and will likely be my second pitcher.

Building Blocks

Randy Arozarena

Tampa Bay should be one of the more popular stacks today and for good reason. Mike Clevinger has looked pretty bad to start off the year outside of his firs start. On the other hand. Randy has been hitting at an elite level. Clevinger’s favorite pitch is the fastball by a large margin. He throws it 60% of the time with his next highest pitch being a slider at 30%. Arozarena crushes fastballs as 5 of his 7 homeruns this year have been off of that pitch. As for the slider, he tends to strikeout more on that pitch but he has also had some success of it as well with 7 hits including a triple. We should see Randy get at least 2 at bats from Clevinger if not 3. Randy is also my homerun call for today!

My favorite stack for today is going to be CTampa Bay against Clevinger. I discussed above why I like Randy but the majority of Tampa Bay’s roster are very good at hitting fastball’s and slider’s. Other teams to stack that I am interested in are the Pirates and The Twins.

Spike’s Stat of the Day

Randy Arozarena has 28 RBI’s this year so far which ranks seond in the MLB to only Adolis Garcia (29)!
