First off, HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the days out there! Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Top Pitchers

Freddy Peralta

Pitching once again doesn’t look great so I really don’t feel the need to spend all the way up here. This is more matchup based as I usually don’t trust the Brewers pitching. The Pirates are on a bit of a cold streak, losing their last 5 games and just not hitting the ball well. They have a couple of batters that are worrisome but Peralta should be able to keep them at bay. Freddy is only giving up hard conact 37% of the time which is solid and striking batters out 25% of the time.  Peralta is a solid option for today and The Brew Crew is heavily favored to win this game

Jesus Luzardo

Garrett had a near ceiling game against The Nationals yesterday so I am going right back to there pitching. I would say they have similar pitching styles and Luzardo has doulbe digit strikeout upside. Washington doesn’t strike out a ton but again, it doesn’t matter much to me when you have solid arms on the mound. Only allowed 6% of walks and striking out guys at a rate of nearly 28% to go along with hard contact  under 40% are solid numbers. Also heavily favored to win, Luzardo makes a lot of sense today and I don’t think it’s any secret. Nonetheless, he makes for a great option on a very mediocre pitching slate!

Building Blocks

Jorge Soler

On the other side of Luzardo is Patrick Corbin. Honestly, I am shocked he is still pitching. Patrick has looked awful for the past couple of years and this year is no different.  giving up hard contact nearly half the time with a strikeout rate of 14.5% along with an xwOBA of .382. Corbin has a 4 pitch mix in the 4 seamer (12.4), Sinker (45.2%), Slider (33.9%) and a changeup (8.5%). ALL of these pitches are ones Soler has had plenty of success with this year. Jorge has a wOBA over .441 on 3 of those 4 pitches with the other being at .331. 18 of his 21 homeruns have been off those pitches as well. This is an excellent matchup and he is a priority for me today even with ownership likely being close to 20%.

My favorite stack for today is going to be The Marlins against Corbin! Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Braves and The Red Sox’s!

Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day

Aroldis Chapman holds the MLB record (and Guinness World Record) for the fastest thrown pitch at 105.8 MPH (Fastball) in September of 2010!!
