MLB DFS 6/21/23 – Ben’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel

Welcome in to Ben’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash game and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…

Above is an example of my MLB Core Plays for the 4/27 slate

Top Pitchers

Shohei Ohtani

Luis Castillo is checking in as the top-projected pitcher on tonight’s small slate – but anyone that reads my content knows that it’s very rare I fade Shohei Ohtani. Tonight will be no exception, even against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Furthermore, we have an absolute lock, cheap SP2 which allows to easily fit in Ohtani + whatever stack or offense you want. Ohtani has the highest strikeout rate on the slate tonight, and there is reason for optimism in terms of the match-up. We know that he goes to his sweeper a lot to get strikeouts, and the Dodgers as a whole aren’t great against the pitch. He has just as high of a ceiling as Castillo, but is projected for 40% less ownership tonight — I’ll side with Ohtani and move on in all formats.

Gavin Williams

Williams is the lock SP2 I wrote about up above, and I don’t see how you fade him in cash games at this price. This is arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball, and I have very high hopes for him for the remainder of the season. He has strong strikeout numbers in the minors, and has a few really good pitches. He has good velocity on his fastball, and a pretty nasty curve that I think guys will struggle with having never seen it. He likely will only throw around five innings, but against the A’s offense at this price makes him the top point per dollar option on the slate tonight by far. If he comes out of the gate fast tonight, we will never see him priced this low again.

Building Blocks

Luis Robert + Chicago White Sox

Chicago will likely be a popular target tonight, but I love the way they match-up with Martin Perez. Luis Robert in particular has been arguably the best hitter in baseball against left-handed pitching this season, and owns above-average splits against both of Perez’s most-used pitches. They also have other capable right-handed hitters that hit the ball hard vs southpaws — including Eloy Jimenez, Jake Burger and Andrew Vaughn. On a small slate, I’m always comfortable taking a stand on one team and hoping for an outlier performance and I’ll be stacking the White Sox on my main team tonight – along with Ohtani/Williams at SP.
