MLB DFS 7/16/22 – Spike’s Building Blocks | DraftKings & FanDuel Picks

Welcome to our MLB DFS Building Blocks, DraftKings and FanDuel picks for 7/16/22! In this article, I’ll break down by top overall plays for today’s main slate. We have already found a lot of success to start the year off and there is plenty more to come! A big KARMA takedown is imminent and only a matter of time. I will be providing Core Plays for every main slate (and day baseball) this season — you can gain access to that as well as our premium discord here. You can also try out the Core Plays package with a $5 day pass. Let’s get to the plays…

Pitcher

Justin Verlander is the easiest SP1 play today for many of reasons. He gets an elite matchup against Oakland who have been terrible all year long. He boasts a 24.6% strikeout rate and only giving up hard contact 36% of the time. The A’s also strikeout a ton which will only help his cause. He shouldn’t have any issues with them. For our SP2 I am rwally liking Taijuan Walker. Against ths current Cubs roster he owns a 30% strikeout rate and a wOBA of only 0.272. Chicago has been really up and down this year along with Walker being fantastic as of late. If you’re looking for some variety today, Miles Mikolas is your guy! With a favorable matchup against Cincinnati who also have not looked very good. He doesn’t strike guys out a ton but he doesn’t give up a lot of hard contact either (36%).

Building Blocks

George Springer

I was on Toronto yesterday and they did decent but not enough to cash. That being said, they get another elite matchup today. Springer in particular looks great against the lefty in Daniel Lynch. He is giving up hard contact nearly half the time and a measly 20% strikeout rate. George is great against lefties and against fastballs. Luckily Lynch is a lefty and throws his fastball nearly half the time. I forsee a lead off dinger for him with plenty of time to pad the stats today.

Daniel Vogelbach

Can’t believe I am writing up a member of the Pirates but here we are! He gets a solid matchup against Urena in the most hitter friendly park in MLB. He has the second best hard hit rate on the team (45%) and should be batting clean up today.  Urena doesn’t give up a ton of hard contact but he also strikes out at single digit %. We know that Vogelbach has a ton of power in his swing and is likely to have a big day. He shouldn’t be much of a secret with it being at Coors but I don’t mind a couple chalky pieces. We can get different elsewhere for leverage.

Bold Call

Verlander strikes out 10+ batters!
