Chase Anderson

Anderson struggled quite a bit in limited games for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He posted a 2-0 record with a 7.22 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP over 10 games (7 starts). With that being said, he was due for positive regression, as he boasted a 4.09 xFIP and a 4.01 SIERA in those contests. Anderson also recorded career-high 24.7% strikeout and 11.3% swinging strike rates in 2020. He ended last season with an unsustainable 16.2% barrel rate, further suggesting positive regression. Throughout his career, Anderson’s been neutral in most scenarios. Overall, he’s been slightly worse on the road or against left-handed batters.

Anderson gets an interesting matchup against a struggling New York Mets team. They rank fourth on the slate in strikeouts per at-bat, although they’re an above-average offense in terms of team wOBA. Anderson’s a +122 underdog in a game set at 8.5 runs, giving the Mets an implied team total of 4.6 runs. Anderson saw mixed results in his first start of the season, posting 10.3 fantasy points against New York. He’s a player that’s better than his recent outings, though. His struggles and Vegas odds will keep his ownership low, but he comes with plenty of upsides for his price. Anderson shouldn’t be considered in cash games, but he’s an interesting tournament pivot on this slate.
