MLB Jock MKT Plays (4/12/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/12/22 Top Buy

Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Buxton recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Buxton at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

Buxton was my bet for MVP this season, and he has come out of the gate scorching hot. He’s averaging a 100 mph exit velocity to start the season, and that comes with a 63% hard-it rate. He gets a lefty on the mound tonight in Andrew Heaney, and Buxton has been one of the best hitters in baseball against lefties when healthy. Since the start of 2020, his .407 wOBA in the split is top-30 in all of baseball. Aside from it being a good match-up, this is just too cheap of a number for Buxton. He has been arguably the best fantasy hitter in baseball to begin the season and now has the platoon advantage over a pitcher that has underwhelmed in his career. He has legitimate upside to be the highest scorer on this slate, and any number below $7.00 makes him a confident buy in my opinion.

Secondary Buy

Tyler O’Neill, St. Louis Cardinals

Potential Bid: $4.75

Break-Even Point: 36th

O’Neill is another guy with massive power, that we like to target against left-handed pitching. He has some of the best numbers across the board against southpaws in this lineup including a .411 wOBA, .342 ISO and 26% line drive rate. Daniel Lynch is a promising young arm for the Royals, but the last time we saw him he was overmatched at the MLB level. It’s entirely possible Lynch could figure things out and surprise us tonight, but O’Neill is good enough vs lefties I would be targeting him at this price regardless of who was on the mound. Lynch has really struggled with power to right-handed batters which fits into O’Neill’s profile. I could see trying to stack him with some of the other Cardinals righties, but O’Neill is my top overall value on Tuesday night.
