MLB Jock MKT Plays (4/7/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

4/7/22 Top Buy

Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Riley recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Riley at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

Baseball is back and I couldn’t be more excited to provide you with my favorite plays all season! We kick off 2022 with Austin Riley, who is in a sneaky good spot on Opening Day. I feel like most people will be flocking to the Padres and Mets on this slate, but the Braves have serious potential today against Tyler Mahle. For starters, this is one of the best lineups in baseball and will be no cake walk for Mahle to navigate. He struggles with allowing power — which could spell bad news against this Braves lineup. Mahle actually allows more power to righties than lefties over the last two seasons, which is where Riley comes into play. Riley has some of the best numbers on the Braves vs RHP since the start of 2020 — including a .368 wOBA and 25.7% line drive rate. Mahle also uses his slider over 30% of the time in same-handed match-ups, with Riley being the best slider hitter on this team. I don’t think he will be a popular target despite the strong spot, and it’s very likely we get him even cheaper than $6.00 on Thursday.

Secondary Buy

Cruz, Washington Nationals

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

Cruz is another buy I like in the same range as Riley. Cruz has slate-breaking power, and is way too far down in the Jock MKT pre-ranking for this spot against Tylor Megill. Megill is someone that was victimized by left-handed batters last season, but Cruz has massive power vs both sides of the mound, and Megill is primarily a fastball pitcher. This is good news for Cruz, who owns a .357 ISO and 51% hard-hit rate vs the pitch over the last four seasons. Overall, I like to target homeruns, especially when I can get someone that has arguably the highest power upside on the slate for such a discount.
