MLB Jock MKT Plays (5/19/22)

Jock MKT is fun new way to play DFS. In this article, I’ll break down what Jock MKT is and my favorite MLB buys for tonight’s slate.

What Is Jock MKT?

The simplest way to outline this is daily fantasy sports meets the stock market. You’ll purchase shares of players for varying amounts, depending on how much others are willing to pay for them during the IPO. Once the Live Trading starts, you can buy players that others want to sell or sell your players during the game. Once all of the games have ended, you will receive money based on how well your player performs compared to the field on the Jock MKT app for the night.

Early Market Top Buy

Yoan Moncada, Chicago White Sox

Potential Bid: $6.00

Break-Even Point: 28th

If you’re new to Jock MKT, you may be struggling to read what’s listed below the Moncada recommendation. Essentially, I’m willing to spend up to $6.00 per share for him. He needs to finish 28th in the field for me to make my money back with the opportunity for me to make more if he finishes higher.

For example, if I buy 1 share of Moncada at $6.00 and he finishes 28th in this field, I make my $6.00 back. If he finishes 1st, I win $25 (profit $19.00). If he finishes last, I win $1 (lose $5.00). It’s that simple.

Chicago’s offense has not been great this season, but there is reason for optimism today against Carlos Hernandez. Hernandez has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball this season, allowing above-average power to both sides of the plate. Moncada just returned to the White Sox recently, but he’s always excelled against right-handed pitching. Since the start of last season he has one of the best batted ball profiles on this team vs righties including a 53% hard-hit rate and a 25% line drive rate. Moncada matches up well with Hernandez’s pitch mix, but I’m also encouraged with how he’s looked at the plate since returning to the lineup. Over the last seven days, he has some of the best numbers on Chicago including a 44% hard-contact rate. The White Sox have the biggest team total on the board today, and Moncada is my favorite buy from their lineup.

Late Market Top Buy

Daulton Varsho, Arizona Diamondbacks

Potential Bid: $7.00

Break-Even Point: 22nd

There are only three games in the late marker tonight, and I like the spot for Arizona’s power hitters. Stroman has allowed a .200 ISO to left-handed batters this season, along with a 43% hard-contact rate. Varsho has been great for Arizona this season sporting a .235 ISO and over 45% hard hits and fly-balls. Stroman is mainly fastball / sinker to lefties — two pitches that Varsho excels against. Over the last few seasons, he owns a .240 ISO against both pitches. Overall, on this small of a slate I am focusing on the guys that have double-dong potential and Varsho certainly fits that mold. It also looks like there will be some wind blowing out at Wrigley Field, which helps fly-ball hitters exponentially.
